Matt Hardy was one of the biggest stars in the WWE for many years. With his brother Jeff, they were part of the best tag team division in wrestling history. According to prowrestling.com on Oct. 31, Hardy said that the industry is just waiting for the right wrestler to make it boom again.
Hardy said that things in wrestling is kind of hokey lately and that there is nothing really exciting going on right now. He pointed out that the Internet has caused some of that since people can find out anything that is happening and it takes away the surprises. He also said that there isn’t anyone right now that has stepped up to lead wrestling into another hot period.
He pointed out that John Cena is another Hulk Hogan, someone who can beat anyone, kick out of anyone’s finishers and is just too indestructible. He said that wrestling needs someone like Stone Cold Steve Austin, someone who was average in WCW but arrived in the WWE and was the right person at the right time.
He also touched on the staleness in the WWE, saying that people will always complain about who is being pushed or how the PG rating is diluting the product, but they have so many corporate sponsors that they don’t need to worry about improving. He also said that TNA Impact Wrestling needs to improve, because if it is successful, that is what is better for business.
When asked how he felt wrestling could improve, he said the storylines need to be more sophisticated and not insult the viewers intelligence. He also said the stories need to be more consistent because if the WWE or TNA continue to insult the viewer’s intelligence, the viewers will change the channel.
