World Fighting Championships held their eleventh event last night at Reno, Nevada’s Grand Sierra Resort & Casino On Saturday, September 28, 2013. This was a split card of 5 Muay Thai fights and 6 MMA fights inside a boxing ring instead of a cage. Dan Lewis and Willie Whipple won their bouts in the main event. Fights on the under card were won by Jonathan Ball, Idrees Wasi, Mike Jenkins, Jillianne McCuan, Justin Gragg, Byron Cragg, Adam Hebenstreich, JD Adie and Victoria Engberson.
Jonathan Ball (0-1) vs. Casey Schumacher (debut)
This opening bout had just about everything an MMA fan could ask for, solid grappling and a great performance by both fighters. In the end this 3-round war in the ring went to the judges who declared Ball the winner by split decision.
Idrees Wasi (0-1) vs. Camillo Benzo (debut)
In the opening Muay Thai bout, Idrees Wasi (0-1) of Carnage MMA out of Sacramento, California, defeated Camillo Benzo of Nevada Muay Thai via split decision.
Mike Jenkins (3-0) vs. Gio Mackey (4-2)
Switching back to MMA Mike Jenkins (3-0) of Cung Le’s MMA from San Jose California, defeated Gio Mackey (4-2) of Northern Nevada Elite MMA by rear naked choke in the first round.
Andrea Martinez (0-1) vs. Jillianne McCuan (debut)
In the fourth bout which was a female Muay Thai match, Jillianne McCuan of Reno City Boxing made an impressive debut defeating Andrea Martinez (0-1) of ASG from Moreno Valley, California by unanimous decision.
Justin Gragg (0-1) vs. Michael Grimes (0-1)
Rounding out the first half of the under card, Carson City’s Justin Gragg (0-1) representing Sierra Adrenaline, defeated Michael Grimes of Gardnerville’s Northern Nevada Elite MMA by tap out to rear naked choke in 31 seconds of the first round.
Fernando Piper (debut) vs. Byron Cragg (debut)
In an impressive MMA debut Byron Cragg of Charles Gracie Jujitsu (Reno) submitted Battle Born Fight Team’s Fernando Piper in less than a minute in the first round.
Josh Wilbar (debut) vs. Adam Hebenstreich (1-1)
In the next Muay Thai segment, Adam Hebenstreich (1-1) of Nevada Muay Thai won an impressive third round TKO victory over Josh Wilbar of Sacramento at 1:18 in the third round.
JD Adie (debut) vs. Austin Haggerty (0-1)
In the final MMA fight of the under card, JD Adie of Sierra Adrenaline out of Carson City defeated Austin Haggerty of CMM Fight Team from Paradise, California at 2:14 via tap out to rear naked choke.
Yvette Aguaristi (1-1) vs. Victoria Engberson (0-1)
The final Muay Thai bout of the under card was in the female division as Victoria Engberson (0-1) of Andy K Muay Thai from Sacramento won a unanimous decision over Yvette Aguaristi (1-1) from Unlimited MMA of Milpitas, California.
Balta De La Cruz (debut) vs. Willy Whipple (3-4)
In the first half of the main event Willy Whipple (3-4) of Nevada Muay Thai defeated Balta De La Cruz of ASG from Moreno Valley, CA at 1:41 in the third round of a Muay Thai bout by way of TKO.
Anthony McDonald (15-5) vs. Dan Lewis (3-2)
In the second half of the main event Dan Lewis (3-2) of Amazonas from Redding, California submitted Anthony McDonald (15-5) of Megaton MMA out of Eugene, Oregon by rear naked choke in under one minute.
