“It is now highly feasible to take care of everybody on Earth at a higher standard of living than any have ever known. It no longer has to be you or me. Selfishness is unnecessary. War is obsolete. It is a mater of converting the high technology from weaponry to livingry.” – Buckminster Fuller
The quote is simple, and Bucky Fuller could not have been more adamant about anything. This straightforward message was at the crux of everything else he said and did, and he was a continually campaigning for all life on Earth surviving and thriving.
Early in his life, Bucky realized that survival depends on shifting our focus and resources from the weaponry that will destroy us all to the livingry that will allow us to manifest his vision of “a world that works for everyone.” He also recognized and proved that we have reached a point where we have enough resources to care for everybody.
Most people realize that this is true for food. At this moment, there is enough food on the planet to feed everyone, yet 50,000 people will die of starvation today. And this will happen again tomorrow, just as it did yesterday.
The issue for food as well as all resources is not supply but, rather, control and distribution. Who controls our valuable resources? Certainly not “we the people.”
Our resources are controlled by a few people at the very top of big business and government, and these few want to make sure that they remain in control. Thus, they flood the general population with messages of scarcity and the need to hoard and fight for your “piece of the pie.”
If, however, there really is enough to go around these “leaders” become obsolete as does war, starvation and much of the suffering we currently experience. This small band of “leaders” who are currently on the top of the heap do not have Bucky Fuller’s comprehensive perspective. They rarely consider the big picture or long term, and when they do, they never share that perspective with the masses.
So most people continue to believe the lie of scarcity rather than the truth of abundance that Buckminster Fuller vigorously championed for the majority of his life. We have yet to really wake up to the truth that “it is now highly feasible to take care of everybody on Earth at a higher standard of living than any have ever known.”
We have our Heaven on Earth right here, right now. It’s just a matter of telling our “leaders” that war is obsolete and that we want our resources applied to livingry rather than weaponry. This shift will change everything. Then, we can begin to live in the peace and harmony that is our true legacy.
May all people soon wake up to the reality that there is enough of everything to sustainably support all life on Earth.
