Heading to Rockford IL? That’s great news because it’s a town that has a lot to offer.
Especially if you are into foods, wine and gardens.
That’s because on September 7, 2014, the “Twilight in the Garden, A Harvest Feast“, will be taking place at the Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. The arboretum is situated at 2715 S. Main Street, Rockford, IL.

San Francisco residents can fly from SFO to Chicago O’Hare and get the Van Galder bus to Rockford, IL. The flight takes four hours, the bus trip takes one.

Festival at Klehm Arboretum
So just what can you expect? Good question. This truly unique farm-to-table celebration will offer cocktails and tours. Tours will begin at 6p and the dinner will be at 7pm.
This event will be a chance for Rockford to celebrate great local foods and wonderful wines, while also supporting the programs, gardens, collections and educational opportunities that make for the Klehm Arboretum being a “cornerstone of Stateline gardening culture.”
Where it’s located
San Francisco world travelers who can get there (as well as any others in the area at the time) should note that the five-course gourmet dinner will be prepared by Chef Ryan Adams and there will be wine pairings by PRP Wines.
Chef and sommelier introduce courses
Here’s how the evening will go: the chef and sommelier will introduce each of the courses and talk about where each of the locally-grown ingredients came from, in what way they were prepared and how the wine chosen goes along with the dish.
What is the menu made up of?
The menu itself will be made up of 5 courses:
1st course: Foie au Torchon (wood-fired Honeycrisp apples and black fig gel (vegetarian substitution is roasted winter squash)
Fancy wilted arugula on offer
2nd course: Wilted Arugula and salt-roasted beets. It sounds delicious and will have your mouth watering in no time. The food here is an event unto itself.
Escolar is on the menu
3rd coarse: Oil-poached Escolar (vegetarian: braised leek and carrot butter celeriac). Vegetarians have not been left out in the choices available at the Twilight in the Garden event.
The fourth and fifth courses
4th course: Griller Hickory-Smoked Sirloin oyster mushroom glaze (vegetarian: eggplant)
5th course: Gloegg-Poached Pear (creme anglaise). If you haven’t had this one, it’s worth experiencing!
To top it all off there a raffle at $5 tickets for $20) with the following prizes: A private dinner for eight (Value $1500) at your home or at Klehm Arboretum with wine pairings, donated by the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center and PRP Wines, and
Win a tree
A Tree with Planting (up to $500 value), donated by J. Carlson Growers and Tree Care Enterprises. This way you can have your own part of the Klehm Arboretum, right in your own back yard.
A great evening out
