Top beauty looks from New York Fashion Week Spring 2014

September 14, 2013

While New Yorkers are saying hello to fall, this past week fashionistas were saying hello to Spring 2014. Beside the celebrities, parties and of course clothes, the makeup and hair was what everyone was talking about. Beauty is what brings the collections together and helps the clothes to make sense.

It seemed like many of the runway looks included shiny rhinestones, glittery pins and barrettes for the hair, as well as clean flawless skin with pink lips and metallic eyes.

Take a look at a few of my favorite beauty and hair styles from the Spring 2014 runways.

Do you think you will try any of these looks next year? Leave a comment below and tell me why or why not.

Charlotte Ronson S/S 14

Backstage at the Charlotte Ronson show was complete chaos, including a model passing out. Even with the craziness the makeup look was completely chic and serene. Created by Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com, the makeup has a natural brown undertone smoky eye, clean skin, and a light rose colored pink lip. The look was created using Boots No7 and matched perfectly with Ronson’s collection, that was inspired by “Parisian girl in New York”.

Products used for the look:

·Boots No7 Lift & Luminate Day Cream

·Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Serum

·Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Foundation

·Boots No7 Skin Illuminator

·Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer

·Boots No7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eye Pencil in black

Zero+Maria Cornejo

Mario Cornejo explained that the inspiration for Zero+Maria Cornejo by saying, “I’m interested in finding a modern way to look at things that have already existed.” The makeup was very modern and almost futuristic. It was again created by Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com, using Kevyn Aucoin products.

·Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm

Martin Cullen for Beauty.com created the simple, but still glam hair styles for the runway using PHYTO products & T3 tools. The hair had a double french pleat, creating a DA shape in the back and finished with a fauxhawk strip at the hair line and ending at the crown.

To get the look:

  1. Blow dry hair using T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i, while spraying PHYTO Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray to the roots to prep the hair for styling
  2. Create a center part, leaving a center strip beginning at the hairline and ending at the crown.
  3. Flat iron hair using the T3 Single Pass Straightening & Styling Iron.
  4. Twist hair on each side into “pleats” while spraying the hair with PHYTO Phytovolume Actif Volumizer Spray
  5. Finish with PHYTO Proffessional Workable Holding Spray and PHYTO Proffessional Strong Sculpting Gel to keep hair in place.
  6. Pull the center piece to the back, over the pleats, finishing with PHYTO Phytolaque Soie Hair Spray for shine and hold
  7. Finish the entire look with PHYTO Phytolisse Finishing Serum to control flyaway pieces and maintain a sleek look.

Tracy Reese S/S 2014

At the Tracy Reese Spring 2014 show there was a hot Afro-Cuban vibe. Part of the beauty look was grittiness with black temporary tattoos on backs, arms and legs against a classic strong black liquid lined cat eye, the rest of the makeup was sheer; glossy lip in pale pinks and nudes. All created by makeup guru Mally Roncol.

Hair was created by Ouidad stylists and was put in waves and pinned up in a soft, sexy 50’s inspired french knot which helped promote the decidedly androgynous bent to the collection.

Products used were:

Ouidad Wave Create Sea Spray

Ouidad Wave Create Texture Taffy

Ouidad Play Curl Volumizing Styling Spray

Ouidad Mongongo Oil Multi Use Hair Treatment

Lela Rose

Inspiration at Lela Rose was Mid-century modern design and architecture – particularly the soft curves of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic egg chair.

Makeup was a pop of pink lip with an electric green eye all by Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com, using Stila products.

Makeup used for the look:

·Stila Stay All Day Concealer

·Stila Color Pigments in Light Show

Czar by Cesar Galindo S/S 2014

The makeup for Czar by Cesar Galindo was futuristic, cold and metallic. Cesar said he was inspired by “technology” for his Spring 2014 collection.

Lead makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff used Smashbox makeup to create the alien-like look. Metallic eye shadow and silver shading contouring the cheekbones, forehead, down the bridge of the nose and right in the middle of the lips creating dimension to the face. No strong brow and frosted lips.

Hair was created by Janelle Chaplin for O&M. The look was “alien chic, meets techno”. She placed bright rhinestones in the parting of the hair and created allow ponytail for a sleek clean look.

Vivienne Tam S/S 2013

Vivienne Tam collection was inspired by Shanghai during its “Paris of the East” era and she used books and her past collections to create her Spring 2014 pieces.

The makeup was pale, bare, dewy skin with a subtle contour to the cheeks, salmon powder along lower lashes, clear eye gloss on the lids, no mascara and pale lips. A very minimal, but still glamorous look.
