This weekend is all about the big names as the Magic City puts on for the Labor Day holiday. EDM, Rock, and a bit of blue-eyed soul round out the choices for Miami’s party-goers. Check out the roster for this weekend’s best music events.
David Guetta @ STORY Nightclub
Coming in at #3 on Forbes 2013 list of the highest paid DJ’s by earning a cool 30 million dollars last year, this might be David Guetta’s best year yet…or maybe not, if you consider that he produced the US’s most downloaded song of all time in 2009 (the Black Eyed Peas massive hit, “I Gotta Feeling”), and in 2011, made DJ Mag’s list of the Top 100 DJs poll for the first time. On second thought, it might be more fitting to call this his best life yet…

GTA @ Grand Central
A tricked out dorm room across from Miami-Dade’s Kendall campus was the breeding ground for this homegrown DJ duo. Already receiving acclaim and collaborating with local-turned-international trailblazers Diplo and his Major Lazer cohort Walshy Fire, Matt Toth and Julio Mejia, both in their early twenties, are well on their way to taking full advantage of the path laid out in front of them.

Bruno Mars @ American Airlines Arena
Fully equipped with a jazzy melody, doo-wop repertoire, 40s inspired coif and ensemble to match, it’s no wonder Bruno Mars can swoon the ladies just as easily as legends past. Whether he takes you back to the “goody goody” days of Frankie Lymon, makes you wonder where he gets his moves, a la Elvis, or simply adds a bit of nostalgic yesterday into today, this Grammy, American Music, Billboard, and BRIT Award winner challenges the status quo, and deserves all the pairs of lady fan undies that end up at his feet.

The 19th Annual Miami Rock fest kicks off Friday evening at Churchill’s Pub in Little Haiti. Presenting a mixture of metal, punk, Latin, and even jazz, this month long celebration has something for everyone.

Dillon Francis @ Revolution Live
Considered one of the pioneers of the Dave Nada-created genre Moombahton (and more recently, Moombahcore), Dillon Francis steps outside of his self-proclaimed “sheltered, lower-middle class” upbringing every time he spins his turntables, and the music world is grateful for it. Born in Los Angeles to a dad that practiced alternative medicine, Francis is slowly stepping into an alternative world all his own, becoming the first Moombahton artist to achieve the number-one spot on the Beatport Top 5 Releases Chart with the release of his extended play Something, Something, Awesome in 2012, and currently working on his debut album, including a collaboration with newcomer RiFF RaFF. Franics is joined by Dutch trio Noisia, “trap ambassadors” Heroes x Villians, and a plethora of other acts that’ll keep the party going all night long.

Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams @ Fontainebleau Live
If your pockets are deep enough, you can enjoy the most talked about event of the weekend. The summer’s leading men, Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams, take over Miami Beach’s Fontainebleau Sunday night for the end of the exclusive two-day weekend event. And after the fiasco that was last weekend’s VMA performance, we’re sure Mr. Blue-Eyed Soul himself is itching to prove that he’s not the beetle-juiced suited, Miley Cyrus’d gyrated puppet MTV made him out to be. Besides, the duo has no issue attracting the most gorgeous women around, and making them wish they could stay up all night to get lucky with these two.
