These bands have spent a majority of their careers opening shows for other acts as they build their fan-base. Look for these bands to breakout and headline their own tours in the very near future. To be fair, the list is in no way any order.
Have I forgotten your favorite band? List them in the comment section and a reason why you think they belong there.
Within Reason – This Birmingham, Ala.- based band won this year’s Grammy Gig of a Lifetime contest out of over 2,000 bands, and deservedly so. Their sound is unique and all their own. Watching them perform in front of a new crowd is amazing: suddenly everyones eyes open wide and their faces light up. As soon as the set is over, they all come rushing over to the merchandise table to meet these boys and get a cd signed. They stay true to themselves, never pretending to be something that they’re not. They are the definition of rock in America today. Most of all, they are truly really nice people; very personable and friendly, especially to their fans. Within Reason is currently on tour throughout the West Coast, so be sure to check out their website for dates and cities.
Gemini Syndrome – These boys have enjoyed success on the L.A. Rock scene and have spent the past year introducing themselves to the rest of the country opening for such acts as Device, Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch building quite a fan-base for themselves. When I asked guitarist Rich Juzwick what it’s like to play in front of a crowd in a city they’ve never been to before, this is what he had to say: “It’s been an interesting thing with these shows because when we’re playing, sometimes it’s hard to get a read on how into it people are because everyone is just kind of looking. I understand that with a new band that you had never heard of you’re kind of soaking it in. You don’t know how to react to it because you don’t know the songs. But a lot of times we’re like ‘I don’t know, I guess we’re done now.’ Then when we get to the merchandise table all we hear is ‘You guys are awesome!’ Oh thank God, it’s such a relief. Also in those settings, it’s like an ice-breaker: no one’s really sure how to break the ice. Then when we come to a big show, everyone’s really excited and they want to break out a mosh pit. They don’t know it (the material), they just start that energy and do it. It’s an interesting vibe while we’re playing. Gemini Syndrome is currently touring throughout North America opening for Five Finger Death Punch so be sure to check out their website for dates and cities near you.
Otherwise – This Sin City band has sacrificed everything to get to the point where they are today. Guitarist Ryan Patrick describes it as “You sacrifice your life. Before you’re touring, you do have a life. A stationary place in your hometown. You sacrifice that entire life and everything that has to do with it. You just don’t go home. And if you do go home, it’s not that life you had. It’s literally three or four days go by, then it’s two weeks and you’re gone again. You don’t even know what’s happened.” They have been touring non-stop for the past two years watching their fan-base increase by leaps and bounds as time has progressed. Catch them at one of their amazing shows and you will become an instant fan, guaranteed.
Halestorm – Arguably the hardest working band in the world today. Their tour schedule is relentless. They won the Grammy award this year for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance with “Love Bites (So Do I)”. Lead singer Lzzy Hale has taken the reigns as Queen of Rock while her brother and drummer, Arejay won Revolver Magazine’s Golden God award for best drummer. If you ever want to see a killer drum solo, Arejay is your man. He’s an animal behind that kit, especially when he busts out those 4-foot drumsticks! They’ve certainly paid their dues.
In This Moment
In This Moment – Here’s another band that’s been touring non-stop for the past two years kicking ass all the way and taking names. Their stage show is quite theatrical to say the least. Singer Maria Brink will immediately steal your heart as she takes the stage. Guitarists Chris Howorth, Travis Johnson, and Randy Weitzel will make you think twice about jumping on stage to get it back! For those of you who haven’t witnessed it first-hand, I suggest you crawl out from under that rock you’ve been hiding under and treat yourself. Creativity surrounds this band; both musically as well as visually.
Pop Evil – 2013 has been this Michigan-based band’s year! Their third album, Onyx has produced their first #1 rock hit, “Trenches”. They are well on their way to achieving another top single with “Deal With the Devil”. They’ve spent much of this year touring with bands such as Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Three Doors Down and Buckcherry to name just a few. Their shows are very polished, a sure sign that they’re ready to headline. Watching drummer Chachi Riot put on a show is worth the price of admission in itself.
Device – David Draiman knows how to get it done. With all the success he’s had with Disturbed, he wasn’t afraid to start a side-project from the ground up and pay his dues. Very humbling to say the least and has earned him great respect from his fans as well as others in the music industry. For David, it’s all about the music, particularly the rock genre. If there’s one person who can amp-up a rock crowd, David Draiman it the man! With a supporting cast of Virus on guitar and Will Hunt on drums, they put on one fist-pumping, head-banging show!
Adelitas Way – Another Sin City-based band, they’re getting ready to head into the studio to record album number three. This one will be produced by Grammy winning producer, Nick Raskulinecz. The first two albums have been quite impressive pumping out hits like, “Invincible” and “Dirty Little Thing”. They shared the main stage in 2012’s Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Tour and really proved that they belong on the big stage. Look for them to headline some shows in 2014.
Butcher Babies – This band has been on fire since they’ve hit the road earlier this year in support of their debut album, Goliath. Though they were on one of the smaller stages at this year’s Rockstar Mayhem Festival, they were the talk of the tour. With their fan-base is building by the minute, it will be the last time they play on the junior stage.
Eve To Adam
Eve To Adam – These rockers from New York City are some of the most passionate performers you will find anywhere, particularly lead singer, Taki Sassaris. That will take them far. Look for them on tour soon as they go out in support of their latest album, Locked & Loaded due out September 17, 2013.
