Off the usual path…err channels.
Cracked (10) REELZChannel Debut/Pilot “How the Light Gets In” / “Fallen” (2 Hours)
If you have REELZChannel (channel 176 on local Comcast, 238 DirecTV, 799 AT&T U-Verse, 299 Dish) they are importing a Canadian police procedural with an interesting premise. Cracked stars David Sutcliffe as Detective Aidan Black, a seasoned officer who transfers from the Emergency Task Force to the Psych Crimes and Crisis Unit after struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder; and Stefanie von Pfetten as psychiatrist Dr. Daniella Ridley, who leaves her prominent position at a downtown hospital to partner with the police. Black and Ridley are the lead team in a newly formed Psych Crimes Unit where they are joined by Poppy Wisnefski, a young cop cynical beyond her years, played by Luisa D’Oliveira, and a compassionate psychiatric nurse, Leo Beckett, played by Dayo Ade. Together they combine police investigative skills and psychiatric insight to resolve crises and solve crimes.
The series reflects the reality that an overwhelming percentage of police calls involve people with mental illnesses or psychiatric disorders – people across all ages, incomes and ethnicity. The Psych Crimes Unit struggles to achieve balance between protecting the public from harm and protecting the dignity of all citizens – often at the expense of their own mental health.
The season finale of (also a Canadian import) Continuum airs on SyFy at 10PM. The CW (WCWJ) is running cycle 20 of America’s Next Top Model (9) which features both male and female models for the first time in the US edition of the worldwide franchise. Friday is the night I suggest clearing off your DVR or for binge watching something OnDemand or Netflix.
