This weekend boasts several new theatrical releases, ranging from a sequel to a popular animated family comedy to a racing film based on a true story. What will you be seeing this weekend? “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”: In this sequel to the animated comedy based on a popular children’s book, scientist Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) is working for his idol inventing things for the betterment of society. But when he discovers that his machine is still up and running, churning out mutant food beasts, Flint returns to the island to stop it once and for all. Available for viewing in 3D. Runtime: 95 minutes. Rated PG for mild rude humor.
“Don Jon”: This dramedy stars writer/director Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jon, a New Jersey man who is dedicated to his family and religion, but decides to concentrate on finding happiness with his true love, Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) after watching too much porn. Runtime: 90 minutes. Rated R for strong graphic sexual material and dialogue throughout, nudity, language, and some drug use.
“Rush”: Directed by Ron Howard, this biographical drama is set in the world of 1970s Formula 1 racing, a potentially deadly sport. It chronicles the rivalry between two of the sport’s best drivers: English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and the Austrian Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl), leading up to their legendary run in 1976. Runtime: 123 minutes. Rated R for sexual content, nudity, language, some disturbing images and brief drug use.
“Baggage Claim”: In this comedy written and directed by David E. Talbert, Paula Patton plays Montana Moore, a flight attendant determined to get engaged before her younger sister’s wedding. With only 30 days to find the perfect guy, Montana uses her airline contacts to try to hook up with potential suitors. Runtime: 96 minutes. Rated PG-13 for sexual content and some language.
