Feeding your kids the right stuff is usually an interesting task. Getting them to actually eat the stuff is a whole other story! When they’re at school you can be reasonably sure that they are eating a little more healthy. Most of the vending machines have been removed from the school and the lunches served are nutritional. First Lady Michelle Obama tried her hand at making school lunch ever more healthy, but her efforts have been rejected by most districts. Seems the kids were choosing not to eat rather than eating what Mrs. Obama and her team came up with!
As challenging as it is, the biggest bummer is keeping the bad stuff out of your house. If it’s not there, it’s more difficult for your little darlings to get their hands on it, at least till they’re teens! The ‘bummer’ part is, you lose out on some of the yummiest junk food there is. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our kids. They better appreciate it one day! Not to worry, one day when you’re the grandparents, you can stock up on all the horrible food in the world. Not only for you, of course, but to share with your grandchildren before they go home! Payback, baby!
Goldfish Crackers look yummy, but they’re loaded with salt!
Goldfish have way too much sodium at 360 mg in only 1.5 oz.! Even the newer baked varieties are loaded with salt. Try wheat crackers, at least they have some fiber.
Juice boxes, the big con job
Juice boxes are one of the biggest con jobs ever played on parents! There is very little actual juice, they have mass amounts of sugar and they can have mold inside the boxes, ewww!
Kids cereal, the toughest thing to get rid of
You know you love ’em, you eat them just as much as your kids do, but it really has to go! Processed ingredients, huge doses of sugar and very little nutritional value. Makes your kid crash early in the school day!
Handy Lunchables, too expensive anyway
They were fun for the first few years. Thankfully, most parents have realized what they’re paying for these things is ridiculous! High sodium, processed…make your own!
Pop-Tarts, the old favorite
It was shocking to discover that just one of these yummy suckers has 16 grams of sugar! That’s just crazy! Talk about crashing in math class, your kid will be lucky to make it to school awake.
Granola Bars, fake health food
Another big deception. The average granola bar is far from healthy with chocolate, marshmallows, peanut butter chips (hungry yet?) and high fructose syrup. Of course, there’s also too much sugar.
Bagged Popcorn, not so smart
Just forget bagged popcorn and make your own air-popped. For just 1 ounce of the bagged cheese stuff, your kids get 290mg. of sodium! High blood pressure in a bag!
Soda, Pop, Coke, all of it is bad
You already know this one. High fructose corn syrup is liquid death. It’s all packed with sugar, etc. Even the diet varieties have toxic sugar substitutes. Scientists can’t see to make up their minds about it. One day it’s safe, the next, it’s not.
Sunny D, don’t bother
Sunny D has earned a reputation in the UK for its deceptive product. It is not healthy, period. It is basically sugar water with very heavy flavoring. Juice isn’t great for kids, but stick to orange juice over this stuff.
Cheetos Flamin’ Hot, the worst snack for your kid
This nasty snack is responsible for many trips to the ER. Complaints of slimy, red poop and horrible stomach pains (and red dyed hands) lead doctors to ask about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Sure enough it’s often the culprit. Google this one!
