Rock band, The Vim Dicta, are working hard gearing up for their new EP, that is releasing on October 21, 2013. The band is also preparing for a concept video to begin late October, and are looking forward to touring towards the end of the year. They have a lot going for them professionally and musically, and I am so excited for all of their endeavors, because this band is unique and highly creative. We chatted with lead singer Cori Elliott about their upcoming EP and tour, musical influences, their new music video for their single, “Stallion,” and what they want fans to know. What has the recording process for the upcoming EP been like? Any new additions or musical influences to be heard on it?
Cori: The recording process was quick and intense. We did all five songs in two days! Our new drummer, Chris, had joined up only about a month before recording, so we felt a new kind of excitement to songs. Since we had written them awhile back, the new dynamic Chris adds to the band brought an air of freshness to recording/playing them again. Also, working with Shelly Yakus and Niko Bolas is always amazing and we feel they really captured our “live” sound. It was a dream come true!
The more you listen to us, the more you will hear some of the artists we are influenced by… Music and bands like The Mars Volta, early/mid Smashing Pumpkins, Jeff Buckley, primal scream-era John Lennon, Zeppelin, Billie Holiday, NIN, Bob Marley, The Doors, Jack White, Nina Simone, Cocteau Twins… we just love great music and don’t really care from what scene it’s from… ya know?
You guys are working on a concept video to be released late November…Can you tell me anything about it?
Cori: We are so stoked for the video..it’s still very much in the planning stage but it’s going to be visually stunning, abstract, intense, and hopefully… EPIC!
What are you most looking forward to on your upcoming end-of-year tour?
Cori: Looking forward to playing out of LA. Seeing how other towns react to our music..hanging out in other cities, meeting new people..and of course gaining new fans.
What was it like filming for your new video, “Stallion”?
Cori: Filming “Stallion” was really fun. It was awesome being in the same room with the guys and almost re-creating a “Beatles-y” vibe with all of us facing each other in that big historic room! It felt comfortable because Jesse Meeker (who directed the video) is a close friend of ours and really knows our songs. And having those big bright lights on you definitely puts you in the right mood…
What do you want fans to take away with them from your music videos and performances?
Cori: When fans watch our performance videos, one of my biggest hopes is that they “get” the feeling they were right there for the performance… it’s something I think gets lost a lot nowadays… that connection to what the artist is really all about. And that’s what I want fans to feel when they hear and see us in any format.. live, on disc or a video… I always want them to see how passionate each of us are about music and playing… and I want them to come back for more.
