Dessert is one of life’s greatest pleasures and the Fargo-Moorhead metro region isn’t lacking for great dessert options. Here are four of the sweetest spots in town.
Best Fancy Desserts: Nichole’s Fine Pastry
The most decadent desserts in the Valley come from Nichole’s Fine Pastry. Chef Nichole Hensen creates seasonal tarts busting with fresh berries, towering cakes, delicate petit fours, luscious cream pies topped with rich whipped cream and mousse bombs that are almost too pretty to eat.
Do what the locals do and enjoy your dessert after a leisurely lunch in the butter yellow dining room. Or heat things up with a glass of wine (or two) as darkness falls over downtown Fargo.
Top Treats: fruit tarts in the summer, lemon tarts in the winter, chocolate feuilletine cake

Best Cookies: Josie’s Corner Cafe & Bake Shop
The cookies in the case at Josie’s Corner Cafe & Bake Shop are pure comfort food, taken right from Grandma Josie’s recipes. Classics like snicker doodles and sugar cookies are buttery and delicious, the chewy ginger snaps glitter with sugar and the rich frosted cookies are almost cake-like.
The cozy corner bakery is a favorite lunch spot with a warm and homey feel. And the staff will even do your holiday baking, so you can bring your Grandma’s family recipe without lifting a finger.
Top Treats: ginger snaps, snicker doodles and pumpkin cookies

The Best Donuts: Sandy’s Donuts
Sandy’s Donuts has been a West Fargo favorite even before the shop opened in 1983 — Sanfred (Sandy) and Donna Ostlund decided to go into business because their neighbors couldn’t get enough of Sandy’s buttermilk donuts.
Now their son Mark oversees a donut empire that features an array of sugar dusted and glaze kissed donuts and filled and frosted “fancies” — bismarks and long johns — that customers clamor for.
Get there early — the cases are pretty bare by midday. A glance at the lunching families, chatty groups of friends and coffee drinking seniors revel the reason why.
Top Treats: sour cream and blueberry donuts, dark chocolate Bavarian cream bismark

West Fargo, ND
Best Cupcakes: Angel Cups
Owners Sera Axtman and Tari Harris quit their day jobs to create cupcakes in 2010 and the gamble paid off big – Angel Cups boasts a rotating selection of cupcake flavors and some of the most dedicated fans in town — they regularly petition for their favorite flavors on the shop’s Facebook page and give feedback on new creations over lunch.
Cupcake selections are seasonal, so look for fruit flavors and fillings in the summer and more savory options in the fall and winter. Standouts include candy bar inspired options like the peanut butter cup and the malted milk and chocolate whoppa’, luscious raspberry and Key Lime flavors and anything chocolate. Those lacking a sweet tooth will love the Almond with apricot filling and the sweet potato.
Top Treats: raspberry surprise, cookie dough and whoppa’ cupcakes
