Many awoke this morning to the headline that Barack Obama had declared November to be “National Muslim Appreciation Month.”
Just one little snag with this caption – it isn’t true.
Fortunately the hoax was quickly exposed for what it was and the predictable right-wing hand-wringing and lamentation soon gave way to declarations of embarrassment accompanied by the obligatory red-faced “oopsie-daisies” for so readily believing the news.
In the text of the pseudo declaration Obama was quoted as saying:
“The Muslim community deserves our full acceptance and respect. We have killed millions of Muslims overseas since the September 11th attacks. They are not all bad. In fact most of them are good. So from now on, November will be a month to celebrate the Muslim community, the Sunnah and the Quran.”
In reaction to the statement it was also alleged that:
Khaled Matei who is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party told CNN he is pleased with Obama and his actions. ‘I spoke with President Obama by telephone yesterday and personally thanked him for what he is doing for the Muslim community,’ Matei said. ‘This is definitely a step in the right direction I explained to him. Praise Allah.’”
In reality, there is no call for chagrin on the part of those who bought the story – present company included. The fact of the matter is that Barack Hussein Obama, despite once declaring himself to be a Christian, has publicly lauded the tenets of the religion of Islam while denigrating those of Christianity on more than one occasion, making the idea infinitely plausible.
Mr. Obama has made repeated references to the “holy Qur’an” while describing the “Adhan” (Muslim call to prayer) as amongst the “prettiest sounds on earth,” this in a 2007 interview with NY Times reporter Nicholas Kristof.
Meanwhile the president has notoriously run roughshod over the Christian Bible presenting it as an ancient collection of dark and self-contradictory platitudes, as seen in this video clip.
The tendency has been to gloss over Mr. Obama’s comments regarding the beauty of the Adhan, representing it as something that simply stirred an emotion within the man. A closer look at the words used in the call to prayer leaves one to ponder whether or not he actually does follow Islam or simply panders to it for the purpose of political expediency.
At the very least it is perfectly reasonable to question how a “Christian” could find appeal in the Adhad. The phrases legalistically chanted by the Mu’adhin (the one who recites the Adhan) are these:
“Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) ~ repeated 4 times
“Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah” (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) ~ repeated twice
“Ashhadu anna muhammadar rasulullah” (I bear witness, Muhammad is Allah’s messenger) ~ repeated twice
“Hayya alas Salah” (Rush to prayer)” ~ repeated twice
“Hayya alal Falah” (Rush to success) ~ repeated twice
“Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) ~ repeated twice
“La ilaha illallah” (There is no god but Allah) ~ recited once
The liberal goofballs who perpetrated the fraud for the purpose of representing Christians and conservatives as “gullible” are the only fools in this situation. Upon reflection, the entire episode has all the wit and hilarity of yelling “FIRE” in a crowded movie theatre.
