Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, Kan. played host on Wednesday September 4 to the KGA Senior Series. The KGA Senior Series, a section of the Kansas Golf Association, took to the 18 hole championship course that measures from 5,100 yards to 7,100 yards.
In the 50 to 54 age group gross scoring Tim Tyner of Council Grove, Kan. took first place with a one under par 71. Topeka, Kan. resident Mark Elliott finished in second with an even par round of 72. Third place resulted in a tie between Russ Henry of Wichita, Kan. and Ward Zerger of Olathe, Kan. both posting a one over par 73. In net scoring Tyner remained in first but tied with Cal Froberq of Lawrence, Kan. and Russ Henry, with adjusted scores of two under par 70.
Mike Grosdidier of Lawrence, Kan. took first place in the 55 to 59 age group gross scoring an even par round of 72. One shot back was second place finisher Bo Dennis of Independence, Kan. Third place went to Peter Robbins of Olathe, Kan. with a two over par 74. An adjusted score of two under par led to a tie for first place between Grosdidier and Dennis. Bob Hunter of Independence, Mo. finished in third in the net scoring with a one under par 71.
At the end of play on Wednesday Doug Kaup of Phillipsburg, Kan. stood alone in first place in the 60 to 64 age group gross scoring, shooting an even par round. Second place resulted in a three way tie at six over par between Tom Barlow of Colby, Kan., David Rhodes of Olathe, Kan. and Fran Ferns of Leawood, Kan. Edward York of Gardner, Kan. took first in net scoring with an adjusted score of five under par 67. Frank Stucky of Newton, Kan. and Pat Goeke of Paola, Kan. tied for second with adjusted scores of four under par.
In the 65 to 69 age group gross scoring Chae Yi of Topeka, Kan. finished at two under par to take first place. Yi shot the lowest round for the competition and finished first in overall scoring. Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kan. and Tim Clemons of Kansas City, Mo. both posted an even par round of 72 for a second place tie. Yi tied for first in net scoring with Clemons, posting adjusted scores of seven under par 65. Third place resulted in a tie between Fred Neuer of Shawnee, Kan. and Ken Butler of Andover, Kan. at five under par.
Fred Rowland of Leawood, Kan. shot a one over par 73 to finish in first place in the 70 and over age group gross scoring. At four over par Dick Landon of Olathe, Kan. finished in second. Third place resulted in a tie between Richard Markley of Cleveland, Mo. and Jim Deines of Hill City, Kan., both posting a seven over par 79. Deines moved to a tie for first place with Jerry Roberts of Olathe, Kan. in net scoring with adjusted scores of eight under par 64. Charles Brooks of Hutchinson, Kan. finished in third with an adjusted score of two under par.
The KGA Senior Series next plays on Thursday Sept. 5 at Falcon Lakes Golf Course in Basehor, Kan.
