Toronto Oct 24, 13– Canadian award-winning documentary The Ghosts In Our Machine won the Special Jury Award at the DMZ DOCS Film Festival in South Korea. Ten documentaries from around the world participated in the DMZ DOCS 5th annual Korean International Documentary Film Festival in Goyan City. The Ghosts in Our Machine, a documentary that follows the work of animal activist and photographer Jo-Anne McArthur, was awarded a prize of close to $7,000cn and recognized as a documentary that captured the theme of the festival:
DMZ Korean International Documentary Film Festival (DMZ DOCS) is an annual festival for documentary films presented jointly by Gyeonggi province, Goyang city and Paju city. Held in a buffer zone, the Korean Demilitarized Zone, DMZ Docs 2013 aims to present documentaries with the themes of peace, reconciliation and coexistence and to promote the documentary genre as a means of communication. –
The film had a successful world premiere this past spring at the 20th Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival and it was voted a Top Ten Audience Favorite. The movie was also awarded the Yorkton Golden Sheaf Award for Best Nature/ Environmental Documentary.
The theatrical release of The Ghosts in Our Machine in the United States will be on Nov 8 2013 in New York City. From Nov 8 till the 10th Director Liz Marshall and protagonist and heroin Jo-Anne McArthur will attend the screening and there will be a moderated Q&As with very special guests to be announced.
When the documentary was presented in Montreal, Liz Marshall and Jo-Anne opened up to the audience and expressed themselves after the screening of this powerful documentary. This gave the opportunity for people to approach the talented and compassionate Marshall and McArthur and get the response to the questions evoked by the powerful images and sounds of the documentary.
The Ghosts in Our Machine is the must-see documentary of 2013. People will not encounter the graphic imaging of the documentary “Earthlings” and they will not be bombarded with statistics and numbers given in the documentary “Food, Inc.” The film is about the true essence of what empathy is supposed to be.
