As you know and if you follow the calendar, November is upon us. This means a few things. First and foremost it is my birthday month. Yes turning thirty-seven is a significant milestone in my life, but hell that happened over twenty years ago. Second, there are a number of overlooked holidays in the month of November that have just cause to be observed by ordinary citizens like you and me. Last, it is the official beginning of the holiday season. Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, shopping, New Years, yada, yada, yada.
So let’s get right down to this smorgasbord of holidays.
November 1 is All Saint’s Day, November 2 is All Soul’s Day and November 3 is All Sinner’s Day, and while all of this is unfolding, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are Deviled Egg Day, Sandwich Day and King Tut Day. How King Tut got involved with this mess I have no clue.
King Tut Salad
4 Navel Oranges, Peeled, & Sectioned
8 Medjool Dates, Pitted & Quartered
1 Cup Toasted Almond Slivers
Seeds from 1 Pomegranate
½ Red Onion, Sliced
3 Tbs. Fresh Mint
3 Tbs. Fresh Cilantro
Combine all of the ingredients in a glass or wooden bowl and top with a citrus vinaigrette.
Follow up this ancient salad from the Pyramids by celebrating Guy Fawkes Day, Saxophone Day, Bittersweet Chocolate Day and Cook Something Bold Day. Thank God it’s not an election year.
So to mellow out a hectic week of holidays, sit back, relax and on November 9 observe National Chaos Never Dies Day.
Chaos Day recognizes the turmoil, fervor and the hectic pace of what is about to come when celebrating holidays in November and December. The turkey, the family drama, shopping, the wind the rain and the cold. Not to mention the disruption, the depression and the disdain this time of year brings upon us. So take a deep breath and have a drink before all hell breaks loose.
Chaos Never Dies Cocktail
1 Shot Midori Liqueur
1 Shot Skye Vodka
2 Shots Coconut Cream
1 Shot Vanilla Ice Cream
Throw everything in the blender, pulse until smooth, pour and chill out.
After that relaxing cocktail you can celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day on November 13, Operating Nurse Day on November 14 and Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day on November 15.
And if that’s not enough don’t forget about the 19th thru the 21st. There is Have a Bad Day Day, Absurdity Day and Have a Beautiful Day. Phew! I can’t wait for November 21 which is the Great American Smoke-Out Day.
By the next week we have Thanksgiving, turkey, football and National Unbutton Your Pants Day. Now if we can only get rid of the relatives.
