I really believe this health care fiasco is a symptom of a far more sinister disease. When “Progressives” tell you there’s a problem you can count on two things: your freedoms are about to be restricted and your wallet is about to be lighter. The American people were sold a bill of goods that included broken promises, deceptions, and outright lies to the point where even many media outlets previously part of the Obama Propaganda Network are calling the Administration to account.
Washington Post- 4 Pinocchios
Anderson Cooper (CNN)- Administration pressures insurance companies to keep quiet.
Some outlets bury the story in a pathetic attempt at CYA (can you hear me NBC?)
This may be the tipping point- uninformed, apathetic Americans who get their news from Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert may actually wake up and begin paying attention (dream on DJ). I hope the people suddenly burdened with insurance rate hikes and cancellations will at least hold the people responsible accountable in the 2014 elections and beyond. I doubt this is the moment of great awakening where the citizenry begins studying Constitutional history, civics and political science. If the founders had any idea of who would be allowed and encouraged to vote in 21st Century America they may very well have put an expiration date on the Constitution.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a symptom of a larger, possibly terminal disease that is ruining the American Experiment: Liberalism. Liberalism and its kissing cousin Progressivism reject the idea of liberty, individualism and limited government that the US was founded on. Liberalism believes a strong central government is the answer to all problems ignoring the 20th Century record of failure of Liberal, Progressive and Socialist governments.
Whether it’s the collapse of the USSR (the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics), the failure of European “social democracy”, or the litany of disasters in socialized medicine in Canada, Europe and Cuba, liberalism hasn’t had a stellar track record to point to. Here Social Security is going bankrupt, Medicare and Medicaid are littered with financial issues and fraud and the War on Poverty has shown that 50 years of throwing money at a problem sometimes does nothing to get people out of poverty.
Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, has a famous quote about Socialism: “The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples’ money.” Here’s a less famous quote- “I came to office with one deliberate intent: to change Britain from a dependent to a self-reliant society — from a give-it-to-me, to a do-it-yourself nation. A get-up-and-go, instead of a sit-back-and-wait-for-it Britain.”
Maybe we need a Margaret Thatcher. I fear we may get the ghost of Eleanor Roosevelt channeled through……??
Pop quiz- you will have to figure out my Halloween nightmare.
