Halloween is here, so it’s time to scare the pants off yourself and your friends. Most don’t think about doing video game marathons on Halloween, and even fewer turn to Youtube for their seasonal thrills, but both of these have a lot to offer if you want to chill out and relax with some friends.
“Let’s Play” videos from Youtube can be a fun way to spend time with your friends and to decide which games you might want to try out.
“Ju-On: The Grudge” played by MisterFantasmo and Kid Lazer
These two guys are so scared, and overdramatizing it for our entertainment, before “Ju-On: The Grudge” even starts that you can’t help but laugh at their antics and, hopefully, find them funny. This humor and dramatic acting actually helps cut down a lot of the horror of the game, while, at the same time, amplifying your own feelings of tension in some of the situations.
If you want to give “Ju-On: The Grudge” a run-through yourself, pick it up for $24 from Amazon.
“Rise of Nightmares” played by by SilasDarko
While SilasDarko tries a little too hard to be funny sometimes, and passes up a lot of items and information in the game by using the autotravel command, he still doesn‘t do a bad job making it through the game on the no mercy setting. Even better “Rise of Nightmares” is a really atmospheric horror game with some great jump scares to get you squirming just from watching.
If you have a Kinect, this game is amazing, if a little wonky with the controls, and you should really try it out for yourself. You can pick it up for $8 from Amazon.
“Silent Hill 2” played by Run Button
No list of Let’s Play videos for Halloween would be complete without at least one “Silent Hill” playthrough. This “Silent Hill 2” playthrough by Run Button is the second installment in the game. Run Button is two cousins playing this game through on a blind run. As with all “Silent Hill” games, the aura of the town is spooky and the storyline of the game is ridiculous, yet fun.
If you have been living under a rock and somehow never played “Silent Hill 2” you can get it for $8 from Amazon.
And don’t forget to work in some of the other “Silent Hill” games, such as “Silent Hill: Downpour” which you can find an intro teaser of above.
“One Late Night” played by MisterFantasmo
We opened with a MisterFantasmo Let’s Play, so let’s close with one as well. This is just a short, incomplete playthrough of an independent game called “One Late Night”. It has some great jump scares, a setting that starts as very innocuous but begins to grow the scare factor despite never really changing. It’s sure to leave you scared to sit alone in the dark.
You don’t need to sleep ever again, right? Or ever be alone in an office building? Then give “One Late Night” a play yourself, you can download it from Desura.com for free.
