The film adaption of Lois Lowry’s 1993 YA novel “The Giver” is well on it’s way to gaining a star-studded cast. Country music superstar Taylor Swift is the newest addition to the cast. According to Variety, she will play “Rosemary, the last teen mentored by The Giver before he meets Jonas.” The story follows a boy’s progressive disillusionment with his futuristic, seemingly utopian society.
This won’t be the 23 year-old first stab at acting, in 2009 she appeared in an episode of CBS’s crime drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and the following year she had a minor role in New Line Cinema’s Valentina’s Day. Last year, she voiced a character in the animated film “The Lorax” and this past May appeared in an episode of Fox’s The New Girl.
Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges are to big name stars attached to the film, which starts filming in Cape Town on Oct. 7. Bridges plays the main character, while Streep plays the role of Chief Elder.
Other stars slated to star in the picture include Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, and Odeya Rush. Phil Noyce’s “The Giver” is currently set to hit theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.
