We are nearly half-way through the 27th season of Survivor after tonight’s episode. It looks to be another emotional one, in a season that has been unexpectedly exciting from the get-go. So where did we leave off last week?
Last week, we saw Brad Culpepper eliminated from the game at Redemption Island and we saw Kat make some fatal mistakes at her new camp. Those mistakes – trying to throw Monica under the bus instead of going after the easy target, the only man at camp, Vytas – cost her her life in the game. Last week ended with Kat’s memorable one-liner as she arrived at Redemption Island: “No one wants to date someone who doesn’t even make the merge!” If that’s true, will Hayden dump Kat upon seeing her at the Arena?
Highly unlikely. In fact, this super-strategic former winner of Big Brother could actually elect to take Kat’s spot. Yes, he won Big Brother and is a potential favorite to win Survivor. But when he won Big Brother, he wasn’t in love. As Tina Turner says, what’s love got to do, got to do with it? For Hayden, it could have a lot to do with it…be sure to check out the sneak-peek video (upper left) of tonight’s episode for a portion of Hayden’s initial encounter with Kat upon arriving at the Arena.
As for the rest of the episode, here is what CBS tells us to expect:
Episode 7 – “Swoop In For The Kill” – AN ULTIMATUM AT REDEMPTION ISLAND PUTS ONE CASTAWAY ON THE SPOT TO PROVE HIS LOVE, ON “SURVIVOR: BLOOD vs. WATER,” WEDNESDAY, OCT. 30. An ultimatum at Redemption Island puts one castaway on the spot to prove his love. Meanwhile, another castaway’s honesty may be her biggest downfall, and an odd man out needs to prove his worth on an all-female tribe, on SURVIVOR: BLOOD vs. WATER, Wednesday, Oct. 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Analysis. If anything last week, the tribe swap seems to have had the most negative effect on Vytas and possibly Ciera, who both find themselves the only member of their gender at their respective camps. Vytas may have worked his way past Kat, but the other women of his tribe seem pretty tight and if they keep losing challenges (perhaps likely up against all of the muscle-headed men), Vytas will be their target sooner rather than later.
Ciera doesn’t seem like the candidate who would fit CBS’s description of a person whose “honesty may be her biggest downfall.” If anything, that strikes me as…Kat? Could you imagine if Hayden swaps with Kat at Redemption Island and then Kat is promptly voted off of her tribe? Hayden has got to be smarter than that and can’t swap with Kat. Buy her some flowers or some chocolates with that million dollar prize. Mid-game – this close to the merge – is not the time to show how much love you have for your girlfriend.
With each passing week, we also get closer to a player(s) returning from Redemption Island. It will surely be interesting to see what happens tonight as we enter the second-half of Blood vs. Water!
How This Works: As the Survivor Examiner, I’m here for you each and every season to bring you the most wall-to-wall Survivor coverage out there. Each week, you can expect an episode preview on Wednesday morning detailing the upcoming episode and getting you up to speed in case you missed anything from the previous week. Then later on Wednesday night, expect my full episode recap. My recaps tend to be very detailed from start to finish…there’s enough smarmy comedians out there recapping the show each week, I’d rather provide you with the entire rundown of the episode. That doesn’t mean it’s devoid of opinion…because linked to every episode recap article is my Survivor Episode Analysis column, which I write following each episode over at TheTVKing.com.
And that’s not all. Every Thursday, you can join me for my exclusive one-on-one exit interview with each voted off castaway. Join me tomorrow for more exclusive interviews!
