The leading edge of unseasonably warm and humid air, a warm front, will pass through the region this afternoon and evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will accompany the front’s passage, with a higher concentration of activity to the north and west of the immediate Capital Region.
Hazy, hot, and humid conditions will prevail Wednesday, with a repeat round of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms developing over the region. Some of these storms may be strong to locally severe. Unsettled and muggy conditions are expected overnight Wednesday and through the day on Thursday. Repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop as a cold front approaches the region late in the day Thursday. There is some concern that prolonged periods of locally heavy rain will be possible on Thursday.
The cold front slowly pushes east of the region overnight Thursday. After a slight chance of some residual shower activity early on Friday, associated with an upper level disturbance passing through the region in the wake of the cold front, conditions should improve with a brisk northwesterly breeze picking up during the afternoon and brightening skies.
After spending a couple days above normal in the temperature department, the Capital Region will experience a cool down to autumn levels once again by the end of the week and into the coming weekend. Temperatures are expected to be slightly below normal through this period and into the coming work week.
