Canyon Ranch was a pioneer in the destination spa movement and its retreat in Tucson is one of my favorite spa sanctuaries. The word “sanctuary” is not one I normally associate with Las Vegas, so I was excited to see how Canyon Ranch was able to recreate that feeling in their spa in the SpaClub at The Venetian and Palazzo hotels on the Strip.
At a whopping 134,000 square feet with nearly 100 treatment rooms, The SpaClub is one of the world’s largest day spas. Fitness is a hallmark of Canyon Ranch and that continues in Las Vegas. There is a large variety of daily classes, a rock-climbing wall, Pilates and Kinesis studios, spin and yoga. The facility sports not one, but two fitness centers with over 80 pieces of cardio equipment, machines and free weights. Guests of the hotel have access to the fitness centers and classes included in any service, and non-guests can add it to their program for a nominal $20 fee. If you’re looking to work off the damage you did over indulging in Vegas, this is clearly the place to do it!
However, if you’re like me and you simply want to relax and work out knots from your business conference, you can easily focus just on that here as well.
Even though The SpaClub calls itself a day spa, this is a day spa that is like a resort spa in the breadth of amenties available to enjoy. Come early to experience North America’s only Aquavana experience. Spa began around water and the Aquavana experience celebrates that heritage with therapeutic cold and hot cabins and pools. The circuit includes:
- Crystal Steam Room featuring crystal, optical effects and aromatherapy steam
- Experiential Rains are multisensory showers like Caribbean Monsoon or Polar Mist
- A classic Finnish sauna
- A warm, tiled Herbal Laconium featuring individual seating and color-changing fiber optics
- A HydroSpa that uses a variety of jets to massage the body
- An Igloo featuring cool air and three Arctic Mist experiences
- Thermal Heated Loungers that lull you to sleep!
I continued the water theme to my spa day with one of the SpaClub’s signature services called Euphoria. The 100- minute treatment begins with a relaxing scalp massage with geranium essence infused in the oil before a botanical body mask is applied all over my body. How often these days do we take time to simply soak in a tub? During this treatment you have 20 blissful minutes to relax in the copper tub filled with water infused with aromatherapy oils and flower petals dancing on the surface. After the soak I’m thoroughly relaxed and the full-body massage that follows has me floating in and out of sleep.
If you’re making it a spa day, dine at the Canyon Ranch Grill, featuring the mouth-watering spa cuisine Canyon Ranch is famous for. The grill is open for breakfast and lunch and features nutritional information for every item, a fact I love after indulging in the foodie culture on The Strip!
Las Vegas might not be the first place you think of for spa, but amenity driven spas like Canyon Ranch will change your perceptions, and will soon have you thinking of Sin City as Spa City.
