Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi has a message for the media when it comes to female celebrities who are pregnant: Stop focusing on their weight gain and diets. Infuriated with the way that she and other stars are scrutinized for their weight before and after baby, Snooki has written a new book that weighs in with wrath on the topic, reported Rumor Fix on Dec. 26.
“Tabloid monitoring of how fast women lose the baby weight is practically a blood sport. Some women have been mocked cruelly for it,” Snooki says in her book “Baby Bumps: From Party Girl to Proud Mama, and all the Messy Milestones Along the Way” (click for details).
And even though Snooki succeeded in shedding her own baby weight quickly, she emphasizes that her weight loss was more difficult because of the scrutiny that she faced from the tabloids.
Recalling how Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson were mocked for their weight gain and initial challenges in shedding their baby weight, Snooki becomes irate.
“If you weren’t on the cover of In Touch Weekly in a bikini within two months of giving birth to talk about your salsa workout, you were (treated in the media like) a fat, lazy loser,” Snooki asserts.
As examples, she describes “how Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian … were tracked and criticized in the media.”
Snooki admits that she had her own worries about losing weight during her pregnancy, blaming the media for that additional stress.
“Awful! Worrying about weight gain made the nine months even harder. The one bright spot of pregnancy was eating whatever you wanted,” she claims.
However, during her pregnancy in 2012, the Insider interviewed Snooki about her diet. At that time, she listed low calorie foods only.
“Right now I like to eat pineapples and fruits and strawberries and watermelon,” she revealed, adding that those foods were basically the only ones that she consumes.
“I get hot really easily so I like to eat a lot of fruits that are cold.”
She added that she thought about indulging more, theorizing an alibi for consuming sugar.
“Indulging in brownies and cookies is actually really good for the baby—like the sugars are kind of good sometimes but not all the time,” she said.
“I’m going to try to eat healthy but also indulge a little bit. I’m not worried about the weight after because I was 100 pounds before I got pregnant. It’ll bounce right back,” Snooki predicted.
Did she have ESP? Snooki did indeed lose her baby weight quickly, counting calories and exercising with a trainer, according to Us Weekly.
Limiting herself to about 1,200 calories daily, Snooki’s extreme weight loss plan resulted in the loss of more than 40 pounds within months after giving birth.
