Shutdown like US Government displaced theatre cries laughter Down in Front

Today the Goverment might be shut down, but no worries if you are looking for “Social Security” and laughs in South Florida, Down In Front Theatre Company is open for business. A fairly new thriving company Down In Front was displaced when its’ Tamarac location was no longer a choice to produce live theatre. Today they open with a clever creative team that joined forces with Soref JCC in Plantation Florida. Their current comedy “Social Security” has audiences raveing. Don’t let the shutdown US Government bring you down, unless you are going Down In Front, for what theatre patrons say is “The best play we have seen in a long time.”

Siiting next to five lovely ladies that support local theatre, I overheard them talking about a Sammy Davis Musical that by chance is directed and chroegraphed by my partner and presented at Boca Raton Theatre Guild in November. These patrons are avid theatre goers, and could not stopping talking about what they were seeing in the up coming months. When this comedy ended, they wanted everyone seated near them to know just how much they enjoyed Down In Front’s current production of “Social Security“. They were right, “This is one of the best plays we have seen in a long time, the writing and cast are magnificent!”

Directly infront of those ladies sat a young family, a Father, Mother and her teen age son, who just happens to be choreographing an up coming production of “Spelling Bee“. This is what community theatre is all about. Travelling to NYC every week and writing about Broadway, as well as off-off Broadway, I forget how wonderful it is to gather in an intimate theatre, with regular local supportes. Seeing theatre so often I never want to sound jaded, like some critic’s can get when reading their review. Look for the good, and they are doing a lot of things right Down In Front.

Down In Front has captured the local theatre lovers, with their current production of “Social Security“. If your as old as I am, we may never get to see “Social Security” in our lifetime again. The US Government can shut down, but this “Social Security” won’t run out of laughs. A Theatre Chat top pick for a local South Florida comedy.

All of the cast fit their characters like a glove, they all get plenty of laughs, making you forget our own US Government may have trouble presenting “Social Security“. Gilbert H. Lenchus (David Kahn) plays the wealthy art collecting husband of Michele Verdi (Barbara Kahn), her clepto sister Lisa Kerr (Trudy Heyman) hides art in her purse while her spouse John Hernandez (Martin Heyman) gives us a loveable unhappy husband, both dropping off their mother Tamela LaFoe (Sophie Greengrass) with her walker and medications for the rich Kahn Family to take over her care. Will Sophie drop the walker to look sexy for Bill Schmookler (Maurice Koenig) a painter? How will these arts loves paint their futures in “Social Security“?

The Down In Front Theatre Company Production Team includes Director Gilbert Harris Lenchus, Stage Manager/Set Construction MJ Baum, Wardrobe/Sales Mgr Elise Lubell, Lighting Tech Linda Matrone, Property Master Susuan Baum Malkin, Sound and Communications Lee Weinstein, Box Office and Accounting Barbara Glickman, Marketing Manager Tom Moran, Hospitality Rhoda Weinstein, Publicity Director George Wentzler, Set Consstruction Ron Pollack. All in all this wonderful team of talents makes community theatre look better than many professional theatres, and at a much affordable price for those on “Social Security“.

Shutdown like The US Government this displaced theatre now cries laughter of joy Down in Front. At the very affordable price of $20.00 a ticket, go without a few cups of coffee this week and call Down In Front Theatre Company Box Office to book a wonderful comedy, presented by a professional community theatre company. “Social Security” is now playing through October 27, 2013 at Sunrise Soref JCC located at 6501 West Sunrise Boulevard Plantation, Florida 33313.
