The upgraded re-release of the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet from Samsung will be available for purchase next month, Samsung announced Thursday (Sept. 26). Beginning October 10, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 – 2014 Edition, will be available for purchase in the U.S. Online pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition start Friday (Sept. 27).
The Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition tablet, similar to it’s predecessor, boasts upgraded hardware and firmware specs. Samsung’s own 1.9 GHz Exynos 5420 quad-core processor is featured in the device, upgraded from the 1.4 GHz Exynos 4 quad-core found in the previous 10-inch Note series tablet. Powered by a 8,220 mAH internal battery, the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition features 26 percent more battery than the former Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.
The new Super Clean LCD display features a resolution of 2560 x 1600, up from the previous version’s 1280 x 800 TFT display. The RAM was bumped up from 2GB to 3GB, and as expected, the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition runs the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS. The new tablet also features an 8-megapixel rear camera compared to the 5-megapixel of the previous Galaxy Note 10.1.
Enhancements were made to the tablet’s S Pen stylus by making it more responsive and added new shortcuts and useful tools. Samsung promises an overall enhanced user experience with exclusive S Pen features including Air Command, Action Memo, Scrapbooker, Screen Write, S Finder, Pen Window and S Note. Just like it’s smaller sibling, the Galaxy Note 3 phablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet features a leather-like backing with bold stitching.
“Last year’s launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1 introduced the integration of S Pen capabilities to the tablet category and created a new experience for consumers. “We continue to evolve the Galaxy Note experience with the new Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition. With premium software features and a sophisticated design, we’re delivering an exceptional and even more engaging tablet experience,” vice president of tablet marketing at Samsung Electronics America, Travis Merrill, said in a statement Thursday.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition is Wi-Fi enabled and comes in two storage size variants priced at $550 for the 16GB and $600 for the 32GB. The tablet features a built in microSD slot that can support up to an additional 64GB of storage. Samsung is offering the device in two color schemes, Classic White and Jet Black. The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition is currently available for pre-order at Samsung.com at at select online retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, PC Richards, Fry’s, Tiger Direct and Walmart. Orders ship within 2 to 3 weeks, which coincides with the tablet’s October 10 planned release date.
