Actress Rose Byrne sat down with Examiner Dorri Olds for an interview this month at The Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. She wore a fun Asian-inspired sweater and very little makeup. Her hair looked much lighter than usual and it framed the delicate bones of her exquisite face. She looked much smaller than she does onscreen.
Byrne is best known for her role as Ellen Parsons in the five-season cable TV series “Damages.” Her ethical character fought hard to get out from under the powerful thumb of her previous mentor, the diabolical lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close).
Byrne was in New York City to promote her latest movie, “Insidious: Chapter 2,” the sequel to 2010’s “Insidious,” which opens in September on Friday the 13th. You can expect a haunted house with creaking doors, and bump-in-the-night frights, plus the added suspense of a murder mystery. The entire cast returned for the sequel and Byrne attributes that to the wonderful director, James Wan.
In May of 2014, “Neighbors” is set for release. It stars Byrne, along with Zac Efron, Lisa Kudrow, and Seth Rogen. Additional projects in the works include the remake of “Annie” starring Byrne, Cameron Diaz, Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx. That movie is due out for Christmas 2014.

‘Damages’ star Rose Byrne talks about the pace of shooting for TV and lower budget films
“Insidious 2” was shot in less than a month. When asked if that was stressful Rose Byrne said, “I’m used to doing television because I was in a series [‘Damages’] for a few years, so I was used to that pace. There’s less downtime and you’re working hard all day, which I like. On the other hand, you get less takes, so there are shortcomings. It can be taxing. I’m usually burnt out by the end of the shoot, but it’s fun.”
Rose Byrne will be in the movie ‘Townies’ with Zac Efron, Seth Rogen and Lisa Kudrow
Byrne was asked what her favorite type of role is. She said, “It’s all fun. I feel heightened when it’s campy, then I enjoy buttoned up and stiff like Ellen Parsons, and comedy is great fun, like in ‘Bridesmaids’ when I was playing highly strung and emotional.”
