Valley Ring Announcer, Ralph Velez who was featured in the film, Twenty Bucks, was on hand in New York for the UrbanWorld Film Festival last week. The film has won numerous awards on the film festival circuit, including the Gold Remi Award recently at the Houston WorldFest Film Festival. Twenty Bucks, written and directed by Jesus Beltran, an up and coming director who has a knack for presenting great stories. Beltran uses great camera angles that almost become a story in itself, setting him apart from other directors.
Velez, a valley fixture when it comes to Arizona boxing, is also Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for FanBase Promotions.
As far as acting, he is a natural, Velez says “It’s something that I wanted to do since I was a kid, something that kind of evolved because of the ring announcing, and the constant joking around that I do.” Velez also said, “Although the role was serious, I absolutely fell in love with the whole aura of it all, and I hope that it turns into something great.”
For Velez, his future looks bright, his hands are in many many projects. His attention to detail, and expects perfection on anything he does. Ask any top level boxer and executive who have met Velez, they all believe he has what it takes to be a top level ring announcer. Velez made history when he was the ring announcer for one of ESPN’s, Friday Night Fights in 2011, that show was the highest rating for ESPN Friday Night Fights in years.
His love for boxing will always be his true passion, and there is no doubt FanBase Promotions is his baby says Velez.
Simply said, Velez has the charisma to accomplish anything he does. Those who have met him will tell you, if he has a passion for something, he will run with it. Velez says, “Hey, everything I do is for my kids, family, and the people who back me.” He is certainly a rare breed, Velez is a person who will help others accomplish their dreams, it is important to him and says he will sleep standing up if he has to.
