Last month, while in Honolulu, I discovered a health and beauty product paradise. Within the Ala Moana Shopping Center lies Shirokiya, a Japanese department store. The wonderful thing about Shirokoya is that everything is authentically Japanese. For those of us who don’t speak or read Japanese, purchases can be somewhat of a gamble. Over the next few weeks I will be reviewing the various products that I took a chance on.
The first product is one we use at least twice a day and often overlooked when it comes to health and beauty. Its a toothbrush. While one would think that there is nothing altogether that unique about a regular old manual toothbrush, I beg to differ. Shirokiya offers the Collis-Curve. (Trying to find the name of my odd-shaped apparatus was a Google challenge.) The bristles rather than being vertical are curved on both sides with a vertical center, so that your teeth are hugged and your gums massaged by the gentle brushing action. The entire surface area of each tooth is being cleaned thoroughly. It actually becomes impossible to miss a spot.
When you are done, your teeth feel as smooth as though you just went for a professional cleaning. And while this brush gets down to your gums, there is absolutely no bleeding. The region where your teeth and gums meet, your sulcus, is a breeding ground for bacteria. It is often very challenging, if not impossible with a bulky electric device, to reach this area, but avoiding it, leads to bad breath. A regular old toothbrush makes gum contact unpleasant and painful, but the Collis relieves tension and feels incredible. Who would have thought that our gums, that are mistaken as being extremely sensitive, are actually craving a message?
Statistically this brush proves to be superior to the standard American toothbrush. Plaque removal increased by 40% and gum health improved by 68% in comparison. This also means that surface stains are better removed and your teeth look and feel better. A collis curve is ideal for anyone looking to improve his or her dental hygiene and wants to feel dentist clean on a consistent basis. Its also great for caregivers and children, to ensure that all regions of the mouth are effortlessly cleaned. Also, those who struggle with canker sores, will find great relief. Since this brush does not cause cuts or abrasions, there will be no irritations that can cause inflammation. Whether for hygiene, beauty, or health, everyone has a reason to try the Collis.
This $5 toothbrush has officially replaced my pricey electric. In one week, I noticed that my teeth look whiter. Plus, they are as smooth as glass. (You never realize how gritty your teeth feel, even when clean, until you try this product.) While I can’t speak with any certainty as to the plaque contact, I can attest that my teeth do feel different. I am a convert for life, and I am confident that if you can purchase this brush (often for less than the price of a cup of coffee) you will be a convert, too. Shirokiya does not sell online, but similar products can be found for a reasonable rate on Amazon.
If you try, or have tried, one of these brushes, please leave your comments below. Are you a convert?
