According to a report today from VG 24/7, Titanfall community manager Abbie Heppe said Xbox One exclusive title Titanfall should be played more vertically rather than a flat, boots on the ground-type shooter like Call of Duty.
Heppe said Respawn’s internal testing exposed some playing styles that maybe didn’t really mesh with the Titanfall concepts.
“I still watch everybody come in and play it like they’re playing a less vertical shooter. They come in, they hide behind cover, they pop out and shoot a dude, they run for the next cover,” Heppe said. “When we play we’re immediately on the walls and roofs, running around like crazy.”
A lack of experience with Titanfall, Heppe said, could be the explanation for why the average gamer who just picked up the game might not grasp the concept quickly.
Heppe said they have to “break people in a bit,” essentially helping them along as they realize how the game should be played.
“Even after seeing the trailers and the gameplay videos we’ve released, you’d think (people would know), but it’s about breaking people out of how they’ve always been playing,” Heppe said.
As soon as the test players realize when they jumped into walls and ran along them, or that they could fly around, Heppe said “by the end of the match they’re going crazy” and playing more like she would play.
Titanfall is set to launch sometime in early 2014.
