Wednesday morning, 2 Million Bikers to D.C. organizer Belinda Bee said on Facebook that according to local police, over 800,000 bikers are “swarming” Washington, D.C.
“The ‘2 Million Bikers to DC’ Ride to be held in Washington DC on 9/11 has quickly evolved from an event originally promoted to counter the ‘Million Muslim March’ protest to a massive ride specifically noted as a commemorative exhibition to honor and remember those who were slain in the 9/11 terrorist attacks,” Barry Secrest wrote at Conservative Refocus.
According to Secrest, the event, conceptualized by biker “Top Fuel” Bill Williamson, has morphed into “an all-out Facebook movement among bikers as thousands upon thousands of patriotic Americans from all over the US plan to meet in Washington DC on the morning of 9/11.”
Secrest said he expects the number to increase by day’s end.
A number of readers contacted ventwing.com during the morning to say they were unable to find coverage of the ride on local traffic cameras, but pictures and videos of the event can be found on several web sites, including NBC Washington.
Controversy erupted after the group was denied a permit by the National Park Service.
According to Bee, NPS employee Sheila Gotha claimed the permit was denied due to the event falling on a weekday.
Gotha claimed otherwise and told The Blaze she didn’t know why the permit was denied.
But The Blaze posted an email written by Gotha indicating she organized the meeting to review the permit.
Bikers decided to make the trip anyway, and were told local police would assist them.
The NPS, however, did issue a permit for what was originally called a “Million Muslim March,” but was later changed into a “Million American March Against Fear.” According to a report at Breitbart.com, many of the individuals affiliated with the Muslim group that organized the event “have been characterized as anti-Semites and 9-11 truthers.”
A post at Misguided Children called the Muslim event a “deliberately inflammatory action,” and says the group’s website calls Al Qaeda a “joke” and a “pure hallucination.”
Update: Only 21 people showed up for the “Million American March Against Fear,” falling just 999,979 people short of its goal.
