As the events in Egypt continue to escalate with the death tolls climbing, including the deaths of children, Fox News with Brett Baier http://www.foxnews.com/ airing at 6:00 p.m. this evening, included video footage of attacks against Christians and Christian churches. The report not only confirmed persecution going on in Egypt against Christians, but one spokesman stated, “that persecution against Christians around the world is one of the most under-reported human rights crime in the world” (paraphrase mine). I believe it is time for us to pray as believers in Jesus Christ, knowing that Our Lord is sure to return and that His Gospel is to be preached throughout the world, that we would prepare and endure persecution, even here in our country.
Jesus already warned us to “”Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”, Matthew 26:41, NIV, The Holy Bible. When Jesus gave this warning, He was in the Garden of Gethsemane praying about doing God’s will to die for the sins of the world. He was praying to do God’s will knowing that it would cost Him ridicule, false accusation, being spit on, whipped and then crucified. He prayed knowing that “a friend would betray Him with a kiss”. If our Lord who is the Strong Son of God prayed on this earth against the powers of evil, then we must pray about what is going on not only in the Middle East but all over the world. Our brothers and sisters in the Faith of Our Lord Jesus are being targeted, imprisoned, beaten, and even lesser crimes and incivilities are occurring to those who truly “love Him and His appearing”.
This is a clarion call for all of us to watch and pray. It is for me (us) to be reminded to “put on the whole armor of God so we can stand” (Read Ephesians 6th chapter, Holy Bible). We must link arms together and support Christian organizations helping those who are suffering for the cause of Christ. We must write our legislators to support Christians who are fleeing countries where religious freedoms are suppressed and even an endangerment to life and limb.
By the grace of God, we here in America can still openly worship Christ and read His Word. However, the spirit of anti-christ is coming against us here too. We see it in our communities. Let us pray and stand together and support one another. Let us be a unified church! Pray and love one another as Christ taught us. Come out of the world and be transformed.
This is my prayer today for me and you and US in Christ. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” (NASB, The Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 15:58).
