Good evening, folks, it’s time for another battle between regions. Before we begin, however, I’d like to apologize to those readers I may have disappointed with the lack of articles lately. I could say I’ve been busy, but I won’t make excuses. I’m sorry, guys and gals.
So, let’s get the show on the road. This week, the US fires off “Machinarium” (PlayStation Vita) for free. For those unaware, “Machinarium” is a point-and-click puzzle game. It opens up with an overview of the city as a disposal flier launches from the city’s highest tower. In the game, you’ll take on the role of Josef, a robot who is dumped on a scrapheap. You manage to re-assemble yourself, however, and set off for the city, where you uncover a plot by the Black Cap Brotherhood.
This plot is to blow up the city’s tower. The three members of the Brotherhood find you and force you into a prison. You will manage to escape, and thus your real adventure begins. Will you be able to aid the citizens of the city? Will you stop the Brotherhood’s evil plans? What of your girlfriend? Will you be able to help her?
In addition to this freebie, the US also gets several deals. These include “SPELUNKY” (PS3 & PS Vita Cross-Buy title. PS+: $11.99), “DRAW SLASHER (PS Vita. PS+: $3.00), “Penny-Arcade Adventures On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness Ep 1 & 2” (PS3 PS+: $3.75), “Closure” (PS3 PS+: $3.75), “Retro City Rampage” (PS3 & PS Vita, Cross-Buy title. PS+: $3.74), “Dragon Fantasy Book I” (PS3 & PS Vita Cross-Buy title. PS+: $2.50), “Limbo” (PS3 & PS Vita, Cross-Buy title. PS+: $5.99), “Tokyo Jungle” (PS3 PS+: $3.75), “Zombie Tycoon II: Brainhov’s Revenge” (PS3 & PS Vita Cross-Buy title. PS+: $2.50), “Journey” (PS3 PS+: $3.75), “Skullgirls” (PS3 PS+: $3.75), “Retro/Grade” (PS3 PS+: $2.50), and “Dyad” (PS3 PS+: $3.75). The full US PlayStation Store update can be found here.
The EU weathers the ferocious assault and launches one of its own. Instead of countering with a single freebie, they fire off five. These are the critically acclaimed “Assassin’s Creed III”, “Jak and Daxter Trilogy”, and “Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark” (Cross-Buy) for the PlayStation 3. They also fire off two PlayStation Vita titles, namely “Urban Trial Freestyle” and “New Little King’s Story”.
They do not quite have the same impact with discounts, however, and simply fire off a 20 percent discount (for 2 weeks) on “SPELUNKY”. The full EU update can be found here.
So, which one won this week? It’s a tough call to be sure. In terms of free content, the EU easily destroyed the US. In terms of discounted items, the US easily destroyed the EU. I’d have to give the victory to the EU, with several top notch games being given away for free.
Do you agree with the verdict? If so (or if not!), please, let us know why in the comments.
