Can you really use the power of social media to lose weight? Yes, says nutrition expert Mitzi Dulan, when you also have the dietary keys to weight loss. In an exclusive interview with me, Mitzi explained how her new book provides dieters with the tools that they need to take off pounds.

“I fell in love with Pinterest myself first and then found myself telling my clients to go to my Pinterest Boards to check out my recipes,” says Mitzi. (Tip: See her recipe for Balsamic Baby Carrots below!)
“That is when it clicked as I was already pinning recipes, workout plans and inspirational quotes (I’ve always been into great quotes). I also loved that I could share my favorite articles. I could be the nutrition and fitness curator of information while making sure it was in line with my food and fitness philosophies.”
Mitzi feels that Pinterest is particularly suited to dieting because “food is so visual and healthy food can taste delicious.”
But she provides more than tips on how to use Pinterest for taking off pounds. The book includes a detailed diet explaining how to eat well and emphasize flavor rather than fat in your menus. Mitzi also provides recipes.
One unusual feature of her book: 50 MSF Factor Foods (Most Satisfying Foods).
“These are foods that help satisfy. Many on my list have one or a combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. It’s a very exciting time for research about which types of foods help to satisfy,” says Mitzi.
“Some foods that made my top list include almonds, pork tenderloin, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, avocados, strawberries and watermelon (the high water content). This is very important for weight loss because when you feel satisfied, you will eat less. So instead of eating a lot of unsatisfying and unhealthy calories, I focus on including nutrient-rich foods that play a role in satisfaction. These same types of foods are showing good potential at helping to maintain a more stable blood sugar as well,” she said in our interview.

Balsamic Baby Carrots
Makes 4 servings
1 lb. Grimmway Farms baby carrots
2 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
Preheat oven to 400°F. In an 8 x 8 baking dish, toss carrots with olive oil. Roast by occasionally stirring until tender, about 20 minutes. Drizzle balsamic vinegar and shake pan to coat evenly. Roast another 5 to 10 minutes, until carrots are tender golden and glazed.
