Paparahzzi Couture, The Royal Court, designs fit for a King and Queen
August 16, 2013 at 8:10 pm, brilliancy presented itself in the form of fashion. Designer Shawn D. Florence presented his best fashion show production yet. The Art of Fashion was an artistically beautiful, breathtaking, fun filled production, which took your breath away. The show started with a Video montage, shot by Elvis Bowman Jr, of the designer and a few models displaying images and pictures of the show’s theme. Giving you a sneak peek of what was in store. Lights down, smoke on, dancers on then Boom! Out with the dancers and in with the Royal Court. Out walk a regal model and a gorgeous trail of men. A stunning display of hair, makeup and body art, spearheaded by makeup artist, Shauntavia “Cheeks” Williams and hairstylist, Brenda “BJ” Jennings, who was tasked to direct the team of Makeup Artist and Hairstylist for this event.
Shawn D. Florence displayed three lines on one stage. First up, the Kingdom Collection, filled with animal prints, exotic prints, gold’s & blacks dominated this line. The Colour Collection filled with bright pinks, purples, yellows, greens and blues. Shorts, off the shoulder shirts, Paparahzzi Couture had something for every shape and size. Lastly, the Black & White Collection has whimsical, innovative, obscured, but very wearable garments. Now back to the production. Each segment brought a different opening dancers, singers and even sound bites. The designers secret weapon Kelsey Jane Conrad , graced us with her elegant, artistic ballerina dance. The best part of her dance is when she breaks free from the norm and walks the runway Tyra Banks style on her tippy toes! It gave us an inside look into Shawn D. Florence’s vision and the creative team behind him. After the intermission, a documentary style opening brought in seasoned Hairstylist Brenda “BJ” Jennings of Spa Trendz discussing the elements of the show and the elements of style of what was about to play out on the runway.
The biggest highlight of the event is that this show benefited the Battered Women’s Foundation. There were beautiful women who benefits from this foundation who attended the show and received a makeup over given by some of the artist. Guest was asked to bring gently used clothing to give to the foundations clothing closet. “Often fashion is viewed as a superficial industry of materialism, “Florence says “I want to show that something good can come from the idea of empowering women with beauty and confidence.”
This show did not disappoint. It was nothing short of magnificent. Shawn D. Florence said he was going to give us a show “that would leave you with your mouths open” and it did just that.
