Every now and then, I will have someone ask me why they may have put on weight during a program like P90X. If you’re in this position, I am going to assume that you followed the P90X program as it is written, to include the nutrition guidelines. Remember, nutrition is a major part of your results.

With that in mind, the first thing I will tell you is to not be too concerned about the scale at this point. Again, If you’ve followed the P90X plan, then you undoubtedly gained some muscle, which, by volume, weighs more than fat. The best indicator is inches lost overall and how your clothes fit. How do your jeans fit now? What about your before and after photos, assuming you took them Do you look different? Do you notice a difference in your mid-section, arms and legs?
I understand the importance of the scale, but it certainly isn’t the determining factor. I have been doing Beachbody programs (including P90X) going on two years now, and my weight on the scale has hasn’t really changed more thnt 15lbs to 20lbs. But look at the difference in the picture to the left. Do you think my goals are weight related? Even better, take a look at my wifes results. Her weight has only changed about 10lbs, but the difference is simply amazing.

Weight on the scale can have a good degree of fluctuation, either way, over a short period of time. Another thing to consider, do you weigh yourself at the same time of day? I ALWAYS weigh several pounds more in the evening than I do in the morning. In addition, my weight will fluctuate based on the amount of water I drink over a few days. The more I drink CONSISTANTLY, the less I weigh. Remember, your body will hold more water if you are not getting enough. However, if you habitually drink enough water each day, your body will not hold on to it as much because it knows it has more coming. This can affect your weight a great deal.
There are so many factors that people don’t think of, which is why I am not a big fan of the scale. In the end, what is important is what you see in the mirror, and how well you feel. P90X can have a great influence on both.
