We live in an era where Reality TV reigns supreme. However, it wasn’t always that way. When I was growing up, the families we admired weren’t The Kardashians but rather The Brady’s and The Partridge’s.
The OWN network’s “Where Are They Now?” recently caught up with our fave stars from both ‘The Brady Bunch and ‘The Partridge Family.’ It was like catching up with an old friend.
Here’s the update of where some of our onscreen faves from the 70s are now, as well as some revelations they revealed.
Of all the Brady kids, Mike Lookland, aka Bobby Brady now has one of the most stable lives of the bunch. He has been married for the last 26 years. However, since The Brady Bunch, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. He admitted he had a drinking problem, but is now 16 years sober. Lookinland said he “lived his childhood in his 20’s.” When the choice came between living of dying, he quit the booze. After BB, Lookinland worked for 20 years in film production than decided to switch careers. He’s now making concrete countertops, which he calls “artistic, rewarding & permanent.” Life in TV and film can be an insecure one, where you don’t have any say sometimes as to when your next gig will be. Lookinland found happiness in both a stabile home life and work life.
Susan Olsen, aka Cindy Brady, has been divorced twice & is now a single Mom who paints & helps to raise funds for animal rescue. Her artwork is featured at a pet rescue facility called Petopia in Woodland Hills. She admitted that after taking time off she tried to get back into acting at age 18, but had a difficult time landing roles. She decided she didn’t like acting enough to continue. Olsen also revealed that while the outside world might think the Brady kids are all rich, she said “nothing could be farther from the truth,” saying that before 1973, the deal for everyone was that you only got paid for reruns for the first 10 runs and those ended in 1979. Cindy calls being known as America’s sweetheart as “unsavory,” because she’s “fairly twisted.’ However, in the end has made peace with it since “it’s also a good thing. Being loved is being loved.”
Chris Knight, aka, Peter Brady, revealed that he was pushed into showbiz by his family, “I’m feeling totally prostituted at that point by my Mom.” He admitted that since his Dad was an unemployed stage actor and food was scarce, quoting his Dad as saying “feed em every other day” they put son Chris to work, even though his parents had no respect for TV actors. Chris’s third marrige to Adrienne Curry ended in 2012, making Chris feel that he might not be marriage material. He’s now juggling several businesses & lives alone with his cats in Hermosa Beach. He’s also busy writing his upcoming autobiography entitled, ‘My Accidental Life.’
David Cassidy, aka Keith Partridge now lives in Ft. Lauderdale, and collects & builds Corvettes as a hobby. He still travels around the world doing what he loves best, singing, to a packed house of the same fans he had in the 70s, “They still scream and yell and all that but their voices have dropped an octave. Its not that shrilly teenage thing.”
