I’ve followed Bethenny Frankel’s rise from obscurity to become a breakout star of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New York City,” Best-selling Author and finally a nationally syndicated daytime talk show host. Of all the “Real Housewives,” Bethenny Frankel is one of the few cast members to have parlayed her exposure to opportunities outside of the Bravo franchise. Last year I told you about Bethenny Frankel’s talk show test run in six markets. The Skinnygirl mogul is talking to a nationwide audience now that her show called “Bethenny” was picked up this season.
However the news isn’t all roses for Frankel. Her show in which Ellen DeGeneres is an Executive Producer is currently drowning in the ratings. Published reports say that there is tension between Bethenny and Ellen who was instrumental in helping the struggling daytime hosts win a yearlong contract. It seems that Bethenny’s show hasn’t benefited from Ellen’s involvement when it comes to celebrity guests, which can be attributed to the show’s plummeting ratings. An article in an early October on NY Daily News goes as far as to say that Ellen is quietly in talks to remove her association with the show.
If you’ve watched Bethenny Frankel on any TV show in the last several years you know she’s a fighter. So it’s no surprise when faced with slumping ratings; and a superstar EP attempting to jump ship; that sure decided to rely on tried and true methods to boost ratings. In true “Housewives” fashion, there’s nothing like a cat fight to draw in viewers. In a recent episode the former “Real Housewives” star invited reality television’s equivalent to Cruella de Vil; Omarosa as a guest on the show. The abrasive reality star quickly caused the audience to boo her after she made a comment dissing Bethenny’s career as mediocre. Omarosa said,
It’s different for you and I, I am an African-American woman. You get to walk around and be mediocre and you still get rewarded with things. We have to be exceptional to get anything in this business.
At one point Omarosa started talking about her brand and how she doesn’t get to be on TV for 10 years without having something people wanted to see when Bethenny countered saying she doesn’t have a brand just a career. The episode air on October 29 in most cities.
The two are former candidates on NBC’s reality series “The Apprentice,” where Omarosa was dismissed by Donald Trump, while Bethenny was the runner-up as Martha Stewart’s Apprentice. And while it’s unclear how the daytime drawl affected ratings, it was enough to get the internet talking about it.
