Hermann, Mo is located just 3 hours east of Kansas City. It is simple to get to just take I-70 west to Missouri Highway 9 south. Oktoberfest takes place every weekend throughout the month of October. This is a perfect day trip for a family, a couple, or just a couple of friends. There is a lot to enjoy!
Hermann has lots of different restaurants for you to choose from. There is a wide range of variety and price points.
Alpenhorn Gasthaus is only open Friday –Sunday. They offer a 4 course dinner with seasonal ingredients, it is price fixed menu and reservations are required.
Black Walnut Bistro is open Wednesday-Sunday and offers both German and American food. They also have daily specials.
Downtown Deli and Custard shop is open every day and the perfect place to go if you have kids. They offer sandwiches and ice-cream, which is sure to make any kid happy.
If sausage is what you are craving then visit the Hermann Wurst Haus. They offer 40 different kinds of sausage and bratwurst. They are open every day and have both indoor and outdoor seating. Along with the sausage and bratwurst they also have a full deli selection.
There are 4 major wineries located in Hermann and all offer tastings and tours. The most notable wineries are Stone Hill and Hermannhof. During Oktoberfest all of the wineries have bands and feature German food.
There is a Bier Garten (Beer Garden) which serves beer and food from 11:00am-10:00pm. Tim Mill Brewery also offers music and food.
There are many antique shops located in Hermann, Mo. At every turn you run into quaint antique shop. You can visit the visitor’s website (address located below) for a full list of shops.
The weekend of October 12th hosts the 62nd Annual Arts and Crafts Festival which is held 9am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. The arts and craft festival is held at the Hermann Middle School. Admission is a $1 donation to the Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce.
Artist of Wine Country is the weekend of October 19th. Artists from the area show off their art and it is also available for purchase.
There are a variety of historical sites located in Hermann, MO and offer tours during the festival. The main ones you will want to see are the Historical Hermann Museum at the German School, Deutschheim State Historic Site, and the White House Hotel.
The cemetery walk is only offered on Sunday October 27. It starts at 3:00pm and the admission is $10. There are live actors who impersonate the people who are buried there.
For the Kids
Pin Oak Farms U-Pick Pumpkin Patch offers pumpkin picking, hayrides, and corn mazes. There are also a variety of activities for the kids that are sure to keep them entertained. It is open from 10am-5:30pm.
