Clevelanders seeking a fun, family-oriented Halloween-related event should check out the All Hallows Eve celebration being held on Saturday, October 12 and Saturday, October 19 where you can experience some 19th century Halloween activities for all ages to enjoy. Columbus is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.
All Hallow’s Eve in Ohio Village Sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society, the All Hallow’s Eve event will offer a spooky, family-style celebration at Ohio Village, a recreation of a 19th century county seat village complete with a one-room schoolhouse and a blacksmith.
Activities include pumpkin carving, Halloween crafts, games of fortune, 19th century entertainment, decorating masks and fortune telling. Visitors will also be able to tour the Museum of Oddities, dance to fiddlers in the Town Hall (There will be people standing by to teach you the dances) and attend an Irish wake. Visitors can also enjoy readings of Eerie Shadow Stories.
Guests may encounter some of the Village’s creepy characters like Krazy Kate, Granny Woman, the Dancer of Mystery and the Ohio Village Grave Digger.
Highlight of the event takes place after dark (at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.) when visitors can joined costumed volunteers around a bonfire for a reading of Washington Irving’s ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Rumors persist that the Headless Horseman will make an appearance at the end of the reading.
Visitors can also join a torch-lit funeral procession at 8:45 p.m. in the Village Square as it makes its way to the final resting place of the recently departed.
Guests will be able to purchase sandwiches, snacks, hot beverages and Halloween cookies from vendors and food trucks on site. The event also has a General Store where 19th century-style merchandise and gifts can be purchased.
Hours for the All Hallow’s Eve event are 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on both Saturday, October 12 and Saturday, October 19. Admission is $12 for adults and $9 for youth (6-12). Children 5 and under are free. Admission for Ohio Historical Society members is $10 for adults and $7 for youth.
