NFL star Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants was threatened on Twitter by a crazed fantasy football fan. The upset fan issued his public threats because Jacobs performance on the football field resulted in lost points in the fan’s fantasy football league.
In the first tweets that Brandon Jacobs tweeted, the fan demanded Jacobs “rush for 50 yards and two touchdowns” or it would be “over for you and your family.” The fan went on to threaten that he wasn’t kidding causing the two-time Super Bowl running back to contact NFL security.
The threats were sent by the user name Andre Rayner. In the recent seasons, NFL players have been receiving an increased amount of harassment through social media sites such as Twitter from angry fans that play in the Fantasy football leagues.
In the Fantasy football leagues, fans create their own “team” by drafting players. They then choose which players to play in each week’s games. They receive points based on the actual player’s performance during their game.
Their “teams” battle against other “teams” and the winner is the one with the most points. A lot of Fantasy football leagues award hundreds of dollars to the teams that perform the best during the league. The Fantasy football fans don’t necessarily root for the NFL teams, opting instead to root for individual players.
Rayner sent Jacobs two nasty tweets prior to Monday nights Giants game. The first tweet said, “On life Brandon, if you don’t rush for 50 yards and two touchdowns it’s over for you and you family n****.”
The second tweet read, “Fulfill my orders stated in the previous tweet or that’s your life bruh and I’m not playin.”
A different Fantasy football fan sent Brandon Jacobs a tweet that said, “next time tell us you’re not playing before I have to set up my lineup #ilostbecauseofyou #droppingyou #p****.” To which Jacobs responded, “F**k you and your fantasy team. This is my real life.”
After Jacobs tweeted screenshots of the threats he’d received, Rayner sent more texts begging Jacobs to understand that he was just kidding. Rayner tweeted, “BRO RELAX ITS NEVER THAT SERIOUS.”
“ITS JUST TWITTER MAN. I TRULY APOLOGIZE I COULD NEVER ACTUALLY DO THAT. RETWEET THIS PLEASE. FORGIVE ME MAN ITS NOT EVEN LIKE THAT. REALLY IM TRYNA BE YOUR FRIEND!!.”
