Now that Novak Djokovic has announced his engagement to long-time girlfriend Jelena Ristic, he can concentrate on preparing for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The season finale from November 4-11 will determine who finishes as the number one player in tennis.
Over the past four years, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals has attracted more than a million fans to the O2 arena in London. This event has become the biggest indoor tournament in the world.
Djokovic along with Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have already qualified for the eight man field. At present that leaves five open spots with the rest of the top ten and others scrambling to make the cut.
The tournament begins with a round robin format with two groups of four. Then the top two from each group move onto the semi-finals in a traditional single elimination contest.
Defending champion Djokovic enters this year’s event with Nadal, the year’s hottest player poised to take over the top spot in the rankings.
If a player can win the tournament undefeated, they can pocket over 1.7 million dollars in prize money.
That would make a nice start for Djokovic and his new fiancé.
