Pulling the goalie late in the third period worked for the New York Islanders Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks. With about a minute left in the contest Frans Nielsen’s goal knotted it up at 4-4, but it would be the team’s final goal on the night. Brad Richardson scored in overtime for the Canucks and sent Islanders fans quietly to the exits.
The Isles got a point though. Meanwhile Vancouver’s new Head Coach John Tortorella got a win in his first return trip to the New York area since his exit from the New York Rangers head coaching gig last season.
Nielsen added two assists on the night to keep his electric season going. Matt Moulson had two goals and Brock Nelson also scored for the Islanders. Kyle Okposo had two assists and John Tavares, Cal Clutterbuck, Andrew MacDonald and Peter Regin each had one assist.
The Islanders visit Pittsburgh Friday night to take on the Penguins for the first time this season after losing to them in round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
