The National Wrestling Alliance and New Japan Pro Wrestling are on a collision course that will meet head-on at the Humble Civic Center for “Invasion.” Stars and champions from the NWA and New Japan will wage war on October 18 in front of a huge crowd. Here’s what is currently in store for the event.
The NWA World Heavyweight Champion “Ironman” Rob Conway will defend the title against “Addictive and Expensive” Byron Wilcott. At NWA Houston’s September event, Wilcott laid out the champion in the middle of the ring after not being able to capture the title. A rematch was almost immediately inked, but this time it will be a No Disqualification match. With rules thrown out the window, these two are likely to annihilate each other all over the building. Strap in, because this could get vicious from the opening bell.
The last time The Killer Elite Squad (Lance Hoyt and Davey Boy Smith, Jr.) were together in the Houston area, they were winning the NWA World Tag Team titles. This time around, they will now defend those coveted titles against the New Japan combination of the legendary Jushin “Thunder” Liger and Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Hoyt and Smith have spent a tremendous amount of time in Japan and are very familiar with these two. But now that this match takes place on American soil, how will the challengers fare?
Over the summer, Jason “The Gift” Kincaid defeated Chase Owens for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship. On October 18, these two will clash in a rematch for that title. If this encounter is anything like their previous meeting, this will be a great match for fans to witness. These are two of the top talents in the NWA, and they will showcase their talents at “Invasion.”
The NWA Lone Star Tag Team titles are on the line at the Humble Civic Center, as The Sons of Texas (“Cowboy” James Claxton and Alex Reigns) face off against The Lords of Kaos (Damien Wayne and Lance Erikson). Claxton and Reigns are in full celebration mode after winning the titles recently in Cypress, but the challengers have been gaining a lot of momentum as well recently. All four of these guys are typically ready for a fight, so this has the potential to be a very hard-hitting encounter.
If you’re looking for an international incident, you won’t need to look any further. The Kingz of the Underground (Scot Summers and Ryan Genesis) are gearing up for their biggest test since April’s Parade of Champions event, and they will face off against Gedo and Watanabe from New Japan. The Kingz have been in very foul mood after losing both the NWA World Tag Team Titles and the NWA Lone Star Tag Team Titles this year, and you expect them to have a less-than-warm welcome planned for their Japanese opponents.
Two monsters will collide, as “Godzilla” Jax Dane will face off against former WWE star Michael Tarver. Dane is arguably one of the toughest competitors in the state of Texas, but Tarver has an agenda of declaring war on him. What will happen when the “NEXUS” original goes one-on-one with with “Godzilla” on October 18?
Fans will also see a Student vs. Teacher confrontation, as Raymond “Death” Rowe squares off against his teacher, Lou Marconi. Rowe has proven to just about everyone what he is capable of, but what can he bring to the table against the guy that taught him? Class will be in session at the Humble Civic Center, but who will have the better grade?
And in a special tag team grudge match, “The Modern Day Hero” Kevin Douglas will team with Ricky Starks to take on the team of Carson and “One Man” Mike Dell. Douglas and Carson have been at war since Douglas turned on him earlier this year and has been a thorn in his side ever since. Douglas even sidelined Carson with a serious knee injury that caused him to miss considerable time out of the ring. But Carson made his return to NWA Houston recently and they were both told to find a partner and settle their score at “Invasion.” Carson looked to his friend and tag partner Dell, and they will reunite to face off against Douglas and Starks on October 18.
Tickets for the event are still available, with prices set for $20 for general admission and $40 for special VIP tickets. There are a very limited number of VIP tickets available, that will get you a guaranteed ringside seat, and a private meet and greet with the NWA and New Japan stars before doors open to general admission fans. Doors open for VIP fans at 6:00 P.M., while general admission ticket holders can will get in beginning at 6:30 P.M. Belltime for this historic event is set for 7:30 P.M.
