National Coffee Day is Sunday, Sept. 29. Perhaps it’s only appropriate that it falls on the day after National Drink Beer Day, or maybe it was planned that way! National Coffee Day is spurring many top retailers and smaller purveyors of the mighty bean, to offer freebies and special discounts in honor of the pseudo-holiday. After all, there’s nothing as good as a nice strong cup of coffee, that is unless it’s a free cup of coffee, as Fox News put it on Sept. 26.
Whether you’re headed out to church Sunday, you have to work, or you’re headed out for a day of early Autumn tag sales, below is a list of some of the major coffee retailer deals for you to take advantage of.
But first, a little background on the stimulating popular beverage. Nearly 85 percent of American adults drink coffee, according to the National Coffee Association. And Friday is the most popular coffee day for U.S. drinkers, The Los Angeles Times reports.
“Foursquare”, a location-based social networking app, recorded rather expectedly, that 8 a.m. is the busiest time for drinkers to get their caffeine buzz on during the week. Weekends push that time back to 10 a.m. in the U.S..
Okay, now onto the National Coffee Day deals:
- You can score a free hot or iced coffee from retail leader Dunkin Donuts, but first you must first download their free mobile app. It’s available at the App Store, or just click here for more details. Once downloaded, look for the freebie coupon under the ‘My Offers’ tab. Or on September 28 and 29, you can purchase Dunkin’ Donuts’ 16-ounce packaged coffee at the discounted price of $5.99, or, K-Cup 14 packs at a special price of $7.99 at participating restaurants, while supplies last.
- Over at Krispy Kreme you can get a free 12-ounce cup of coffee at participating U.S. and Canadian locations. Or for just $1, order any 12-ounce mocha, latte or specialty drink, including the Pumpkin Spice Latte.
- Starbucks is offering free tastings of its new coffee blend, Ethiopia. From the birthplace of coffee, it’s described as a medium roast coffee with, “notes of sweet citrus and peppery spice”. Purchase a one-pound bag of it on National Coffee Day and receive a complimentary Ethiopian-inspired commemorative ceramic cup, while supplies last.
- At Peet’s Coffee & Tea, order any baked item or a bowl of Simply Oatmeal you’ll get a free small maple latte. However, their offer is only good from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you need this coupon.
And don’t forget that your favorite local café may be offering deals as well, so check them out too.
Hopefully this will inspire you to take advantage and indulge in some great deals on Sunday, even if you’re not a big coffee drinker.
