Like sleep, meditation is an important ingredient to good health. Giving the mind a mental break is as essential as giving the body good nutrition. Food feeds the body meditation feeds the mind.
What you do with your mind will indeed affect what happens in your body. There is an old saying that what you think about you bring about.
William Shakespeare said, that “Our bodies are our gardens to which our wills are gardeners.” The bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. The Buddha says, “Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care.”
The three tenants for taking care of the body are just as we honor GOD the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, as well as we honor, The Spirit (GOD), The Mind (Spirit) and the Body (Holy Spirit). Meditation supports the awakening of your inner being, and allows you to connect with all aspects of yourself.
Your body is not indestructible, and it can only do so much and be pushed so far before it begin the weaken, shut down and, become dis-eased.
There are 4 components that promote good health and two of them require quieting the mind. One is getting plenty of rest. Sleep is the body’s way of rejuvenating itself. Sleep is the only time the body can take charge and work in concert with your brain. This is the only time that the mind and body work in harmony. It is the only time the body has to process the toxins you have ingested, so that it may restore and replenish your organs and return them to optimal health.
As crazy as this may sound, there is a mental need to prepare the body for sleep, for work, and for recreation, because when you “pay” attention to the body, the body “pays” attention to you.
The second is exercise, and I know you are probably asking how can you call exercise meditation? You can call it meditation because you are giving total attention to your body. You are rewarding it by paying attention to it! Even though you may hate exercise and meditation it is by far the best thing you can give your body. By the way, do you know why you hate exercise? You hate it because your ego has no control over you when you are doing it. Experts say, the hardest thing about exercise is putting your sneakers on! Meditation is the same, the hardest thing about meditating, is sitting down and shutting up!
Give your heart a gift today, and Meditate on it!
