In honor of Thailand’s annual Loy Krathong festival, Anantara Bangkok Resort & Spa is introducing two mouthwatering reasons to dine at the tropical hideaway along the majestic River of Kings. This richly meaningful celebration is intrinsically connected with water and Anantara Bangkok Resort & Spa offers an enviable setting on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, with two special dinners inviting guests to experience river magic from two distinctive perspectives. You will experience a heady mix of irresistible exotic flavors and vibrant entertainment. Choose from either their “Riverside Terrace International Buffet” or the “Special Thai Set Menu aboard a Manohra Cruise” on 17 November 2013. Both dining options begin at 18:00 hours as the sun sets and the moon lights up the urban night sky.
Held on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month, Loy Krathong is a time to pay respects to Buddha and thank the Goddess of Water, Phra Mae Khongkha. The festival’s name translates as ‘floating basket’, and each year thousands of krathong floats are released along Thailand’s waterways, adorned with candles, incense and money. Wishes are made and as the krathongs drift away, this symbolises letting go of grievances and starting fresh. Thais believe that the longer the candle burns, the better next year will be. While an old proverb holds that when a boy and girl float a krathong together, they will be lovers in this life or the next.
Manohra Cruises Special Thai Set Menu
You are invited to step aboard a magnificently restored antique rice barge of old world charm and modern luxury with a Manohra Cruise. Diners drift along the river, marveling at some of the city’s most famous historic and cultural sites, as thousands of candle lit krathong floats glide past. For the Special Thai Set Menu, Thailand’s most exquisite regional recipes are presented in five stages. The meal begins with Miang Kam which is an assortment of fresh herbs and spices that you wrap in wild betal nut leaves and top with sweet tamarind sauce. A collection of appetizers come next with Goong Yang Ta Krai of grilled marinated tiger prawn lemongrass skewer served with spicy sauce. A spicy seafood soup follows, before a selection of tantalizing main dishes are served, including Panang Ped of slow cooked marinated duck leg in dry red curry and Goong Mung Korn Nam Ma Kam of fried Phuket lobster with spicy tamarind sauce. After exotic traditional desserts, diners can relax and watch fireworks illuminating the city sky. This dining option is priced at $160.78USD (4,999Baht) ++ per person.
Riverside Terrace International Buffet
With tables spread out on a spacious waterfront deck, Riverside Terrace offers a beautiful al fresco setting and an extensive buffet choice. The wide range of culinary stations includes highlights such as flame grilled BBQ delights, succulent carved meats, sensational seafood and a wonderful selection of exciting flavors from some of the world’s most celebrated cuisines. A parade of designer desserts concludes the gourmet meal and the evening is enriched by Thai dancers performing on a flame lit riverside stage, as fireworks erupt in the sky and krathong floats meander with the flow of the river. This dining option is priced at $96.46USD (2,999Baht) ++ per person.
