Oh MadCatz, your products are released so often with multiple versions to choose from you have been providing the see through purple N64 controller to the high quality gaming keyboards. The quality has greatly improved since the old days of the PS One and the N64. Now it seems MadCatz is more focused on PC gaming than anything and I am not complaining. The new keyboard is the S.T.R.I.K.E 3 gaming keyboard, and it is awesome.
This keyboard is part of the high performance S.T.R.I.K.E series, the most expensive one being the S.T.R.I.K.E 5 keyboard. That one has a bunch of customization options and a never ending amount of bells and whistles. The S.T.R.I.K.E 3 model is a much smaller and more toned down version. It is much more affordable and offers the same kind of quality response you would expect.
First, the technical stuff, for those of you know are into that kind of thing.
12 Programmable Macro Keys
Mode Settings to switch between different loadouts
P.U.L.S.E. Key Membrane to allow faster key response and more accurate signals
Removable wrist rest
Product Dimensions: 20 x 2.8 x 7.9 inches
This keyboard works great. The responsiveness is by far the best I have used. Games I played are, Aarklash Legacy, PayDay 2, League of Legends, DOTA 2, Shadow Warrior and Defiance. Games like LoL and DOTA 2 require quick reflexes for activating abilities, and this keyboard allows me to do just that. The response is almost instant.
It also helps that this keyboard is very comfortable. The wrist rest is great for long gaming sessions or even writing sessions. The design is very concise and appealing too. The backlighting is just perfect in terms of brightness. It is not too bright that it distracts you, but it is not too dim where you can’t see much in darker lighting. The colors also change depending on what mode you are using so you know exactly what mode you are in.
The key customization is also nice given the size and presentation of the keyboard. The 12 keys can be programmed to open certain programs and you can use them as keybindings so certain games feel more comfortable. While the customization is not close to the other keyboards in this line, it is enough to make a difference for hardcore gamers. The S.T.R.I.K.E 3 is very well made and sturdy. The fiber chord prevents tangles and is more responsive.
The only problem with this keyboard is that it is a bit big considering what is on it. This isn’t a keyboard you will be taking with you places but is great for at home gaming. Other than that, I could not find a single problem with this product. The size issue is more personal preference than a criticism.
You can pick up the S.T.R.I.K.E 3 Gaming Keyboard on MadCatz’s website for 99.99 USD. For the lower price, it is well worth it. I give The MadCatz S.T.R.I.K.E 3 Precision Gaming Keyboard a 5/5. It is just that damn good.
