Danielle Hunter was named SEC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week following LSU’s win over Florida, 17-6 over the weekend and announced by SEC Digital Network on Monday, October 14, 2013.
Hunter, DE for the Tigers, played a game that contributed to the improvement of LSU’s defense and the win against Florida. He was responsible for seven tackles, one for a loss on a 3rd down play and broke up two pass plays at the line of scrimmage. Hunter was only shy one tackle for breaking his personal best record for tackles in a game.
LSU’s defense held Florida to two field goals throughout the game, the only points scored by Florida and 240 total yards during the game. The Gators were forced to punt in five consecutive possessions that carried over into the 3rd quarter after LSU scored a field goal on their opening drive.
LSU’s defense racked up four sacks, eight tackles for a loss, and five quarterback hurries. This game marked the first game since 1979 that the Tigers kept the Gators from scoring a touchdown.
Hunter played in 12 games last year and has the talent to become a starter in the future.
Hunter, 241 lbs., is a sophomore from Katy, Texas.
