Like most parents, this time of year, much of your efforts are put towards getting your kids ready for school. You’ve done the shopping and now you have the clothes washed, hug up, and ready to go for the first day to arrive. School has started, your kids come home, take off their clothes, and chaos begins. You have a mountain of socks to wash and hope that what goes in the wash will eventually come out. Why is it that no one has been able to identify the monster that eats our socks in our laundry. Is there anything that can save you from this madness?
Getting the same color of socks
One of the simplest solutions to your sock dilemma is to get the same color socks for everyday use. The easiest colors to choose from are all black or all white. Then when one sock is lost, put its partner aside for the next lost sock situation and miraculously you’ve made a pair, without having to purchase more socks. This doesn’t appear to be very imaginative, but on the contrary, if you can find a way to solve this issue in an efficient manner, then you’re way ahead of the game. If you have more than one child, you can alter these suggestions somewhat to meet each child’s need. While it would seem practical to just buy the same color for everyone, this only works if your children wear the same size socks. You can also look at purchasing a different color for each child. Therefore, no one can borrow another’s socks without being detected.
Getting a different brand of socks for each kid
Another direction you can take is to get a different brand of socks for each child. This may sound a little cumbersome, but it works out pretty well. Most of today’s brand socks have a pretty distinctive logo or design to their merchandise. This gives your kids the freedom to be their own individuals and pick a specific brand that they enjoy. Usually within that brand you also have a variety of colors to choose from that works well with what they’re wearing that day. If your child is a little on the conservative side and likes your basics of white, black, brown, and blue, you’ll find a large assortment of brands and styles to pick from. If you child likes to bring attention to who they are, then there’s definitely specific brands out that cater to loud brighter colors and crazy designs.
Put your socks together before they go in the laundry
Whether you choose to purchase the same color socks for your kids or the same brand of socks, there’s a helpful method that can make your life easier and make your kids part of the solution . If you have an exceptional child, they take their socks off at the end of the day and put them in the hamper, or near the hamper, or if you’re lucky, in the same room as the hamper. One of the problems that continue to make washing socks an issue is that usually two socks go on, but the two that come off are not necessarily in the same vicinity of each other. Therefore, if two don’t go into the wash together, you’ve pretty much guaranteed an odd number of socks at the end. The solution to this is to teach your kids to fold their socks together when they take them off and put them in the hamper; or at least to fold their socks together. That way, they’re at least giving you a fighting chance.
Using a mesh bag
Using a mesh bag is not a new invention to washing clothes. Mesh bags have been around for a very long time. Ladies predominantly have used them over the years for their nylons or delicate clothing. In this case; however, mesh bags are used to contain your family’s socks in one container until your laundry is complete. If you’ve started out with the right number of socks, how could you possibly lose socks since they remain together throughout the entire process? If you have a number of children this actually works in your favor. Get a different bag for each child. Not only does it keep your socks together in the laundry, but when it comes time for folding, you need only to tackle one bag at a time and tuck your children’s clean, folded socks away – for another day.
