California has 62,469 restaurants. If Southern California has only one third of them, obviously I will miss a few buffets I never heard of before. Nevertheless, with decades of experience dining out throughout Southern California, this list gives you the best five buffets in Southern California. Technically, you will only find three buffets and two outrageously good salad bars here.
Best Five Buffets / Salad Bars in Southern California
- Golden Corral in the City of Industry
- Storytellers Café in California Grand Hotel, Anaheim – breakfast buffet only
- Fire + Ice Bar + Grill, Anaheim GardenWalk, Anaheim
- Souplantation throughout Southern California
- Claim Jumper Salad Bar throughout Southern California
You may just want a buffet closer to where you live so below you will find the runner-ups.
- Hometown Buffet
- Captain Kidd Buffet – across from Disneyland on Harbor Boulevard, Anaheim – while the focus is on children, it has lots of more adult dishes too.
- El Torito Sunday brunch buffet
- Buffet China

Golden Corral Buffet & Grill, City of Industry
Among Southern California’s buffets and salad bars in this list, Golden Corral has the broadest selection of choices: salads and fresh fruits, vegetables, dishes with meats, various types of meat including roast turkey and steak, fish, bakery goods, and outrageous desserts such as the chocolate fountain. The best part is that the food is delicious yet the prices are comparable to their competitors’. Restaurant review: “The Golden Corral Buffet & Grill Finally Arrives in the Los Angeles Area.”
Storyteller’s Cafe breakfast buffet, Grand Californian Hotel, Downtown Disney
Although the Storyteller’s Café only has a buffet for breakfast, this restaurant deserves to be on the list of best buffets and salad bars in Southern California. Typical of Disneyland’s character restaurants, you pay for the privilege of meeting characters at your table during the Chip ‘n Dale Critter Breakfast. The food is exceptional from their Farmer’s Market Buffet of home-style breakfast specialties. Likewise, the made to order omelets are a breakfast treat. If you enjoy waffles, you’ll love their Mickey waffles. This buffet offers so much more. “Restaurant review: Storytellers Café, Disneyland Resort.”
Fire + Ice Grill + Bar in the Anaheim Gardenwalk
Among the Best Six Buffets in Southern California, the Fire + Ice buffet is unique because its meat and seafood are still raw. You get to make your selections of what you want cook like you would at a Mongolian BBQ. You take it then to the cook at the grill where you can sit and watch him prepare it while you visit with him and the other guests around the grill. In that respect it is like Benihana’s teppanyaki style grill. The Garden Grove Souplantation Excels as a Salad Bar Plus
The Souplantation gained its slot on this list of Best Six Buffets in Southern California because of the exceptional variety of prepared salads and assortment of raw vegetables and fruits to build your own salads. They have soups and baked goods plus simple desserts as well. The Souplantation does have meat in some of their soups but the focus is on fresh and raw greens and vegetables. Restaurant review: ”Garden Grove’s Souplantation serves up greens and more.”
The salad bar at Claim Jumper, Santa Ana
The Claim Jumper joins this list of best buffets because of the extraordinary salad bar that you can add to your meal or just order it separately. Similar to Souplantation, the Claim Jumper has prepared salads as well as raw greens, vegetables and fruit for those who prefer to build their own salads. It also has soups. Although not part of the produce bar, you can order some spectacular desserts here. And for meat lovers, you have a menu with delicious choices.
